New Defenders starting to show up at dealers

I picked up an F150 in December. Grabbed one off the lot that met my wants. I’ll add leather katzkin down the road. The tech on this thing versus my trade in DD Honda that was only five years old is mind blowing..
Ford just announced major factory shut Downs just as I thought we were beginning to dig out if this chip crisis.

Ordered 2021 110 in Oct. Spec’d steel wheels, no sunroofs, cloth interior, all traction/terrain packages, cold weather package, 5 seats, white, 4 cyl. Very basic “Defender”.

November, dealer calls, have to reconfigure build as a ‘22 on JLR website. Ok, did that.

Late Jan, call dealer. They are getting minimal allotments, and for Jan could only order 6 cyl. Waiting to see what Feb and March allotments bring. And of course, have to reconfig build as a ‘23 on JLR website.

Huge supply chain issues, have called other nearby dealers and are getting same story about limited allotments, some only getting one model across JLR range for the month…

Meanwhile, wife is driving the new SuperDuty 350 as grocery getter.
The basic models get the back burner to the higher priced models that have the higher profit margins - so like the frog in hot water, they will slowly turn up the "heat" (cost) and then by the time is shows up you realize it $20K more than you started! Funny-not funny....Good luck I think I may need to wait till MY24...!

I’d rather find a Yukon AT4. It’s least offensive looking among the large SUVs, has more room akin to an LR4, there are way more dealers to service it, has enough off-road chops for the reality of how they’re used, and yes the infotainment system probably actually works.

Can you get those with the small Duramax?

You can in the other trim levels, but the AT4 package only offers the 5.3 and 6.2 V8, although they're pretty nice if you're not concerned about fuel. Apparently, the unique approach angle of the AT4 interferes with the Duramax intercooler location. You could probably get close to a Duramax AT4 by going with an SLT and adding factory and aftermarket options.

Lexus is the only dealer I’ve heard of that has reliably declined to add a “market adjustment.” You could potentially get a GX460, which may be one of the most reliable vehicles they’ve ever built, for msrp. It will last for 20 years, which is how long it will take you to get over the front end.

My order just lost a few a few options. It was supposed to be build in March and delivery by the end of April. Now it is Built in April and delivery in June.

No camera review mirror, no TFT screen gauge cluster nor 11/4" screen.

I wouldn't stress much over the rear view camera... kinda a novelty. I never run it since I get nauseous if I watch too long. Certainly is valuable for those very rare times that I have too much in the boot or someone in the middle seat. The bigger screen is nice in function, but not aesthetically.

Bummer guys sorry to hear that! I went to a dealer a few weeks ago and they were pretty cautious with what is or isn’t going to be available. Excited to see yours though!

Settled. Dealer called and offered us a 30th, at sticker, now. Delayed pick up for a week, as we went to Keys for a short vacation. Pick it up tomorrow. As a bonus, we are invited to reveal and banquet for new RR Sport. Would never buy a RRS, but also would never pass up free food.

So ended up with most options, sunroof, roofrack, and manual seats.

Congrats. Looking forward to hearing what you, or anyone, thinks of the engine. I ordered the 6 cylinder and am a little apprehensive on going down to the 4 cylinder as there are a few dealers in the area that have them sitting.

My current order was supposed to be built on Friday and delivered in July. At this point I do not mind waiting until it pushes out again.

My old coworkers from the dealership all say the I6 is total garbage. The I4 has tons of issues as well, but at least there is some room to work on it

Please elaborate.
All of the usual stuff like timing and plastic cooling system components. I was at the local dealership probably 6 weeks ago that has a Pretender with the V8 that has a defective cylinder head. It was still there when I stopped by last week. Here’s the replacement cylinder head from Land Rover.

Charlotte dealer called me yesterday asking if I was interested in a 1of500 edition. Sticker $76k with the $7500 “option” of the anniversary package. Couldn’t get a full explanation of what that included. Pass.
