New Defender, 2020

No doubt EU regulations impact winch attachment options yet respooling the winch line on that setup looks iffy.

Look forward to the actual revel in September.

no surprises. very boring, "safe" design to appeal to the masses. sell out.

just more of the same - D5, RR sport, RR - in a different wrapper.

I've been trying to figure out where it sucks air in to cool the radiators... maybe just because I've been working on a D2 cooling system the last couple weeks. But a lot of that front end looks blocked off. I don't think it will have cooling problems, but the lack of obvious straight in flow is strange.

The question is how much of that stuff can come off

There is a rumor that there will be an official photo or two tomorrow.

Honestly, I've started liking it less since the Bond photo leak. I was interested, not so much anymore.

Land Rover cant even do the launch of the Defender correctly. All this press with it under camouflage to be undone by someone with a camera phone.

I hope McGovern had a massive facepalm moment.

Honestly, I've started liking it less since the Bond photo leak.

There was a leaked photo a while back that caught a glimpse of the brake pedal and gas pedal, which were labeled "stop" and "go." I was already kind of lost on the new SUV they've labelled the "Defender," but that nailed it home for me.

Like to think I'm somewhat open minded, possibly kidding myself, but the leaked picture does little to nothing for me
from a styling standpoint. Doesn't standout from the madding crowd @ all.

I feel like I'm going through Land Rover psychological stages that have gone undocumented for years...

1) Excitement: "A new Defender is coming to the US!!!"
2) Worry: "What if it is not X, X and X? (maybe add a few more Xs)"
3) Anger: "I can't believe JLR is so blind! They don't care about me, the enthusiast!"
4) Exhaustion: "I need a break from the forums and google image search and need to fix X on my existing Land Rover."
4) Acceptance: "Well, if I get the right, non-metalic color, re-do the front end with a kit, change the tires, add some Defendery bits, and slap on a 'My other Land Rover is a real Defender' bumper sticker... It will be OK. Besides, they'll do a metal refresh in a few years."

Well... we still have the rear of the truck, a refrigerator door with a spare, large rear doors, and a square load area. Just cut out the grill to expose the winch and cover up the front-end with a brush guard.

This. I keep trying to pull an emotional tie out of my system to this new truck... I can't find any attachment. I should feel all tingly after looking at it, like the first time I saw a Rover or my first kiss... instead... I feel hungover, without a coat in Alaska (or some place freakin cold).

I have a hard time understanding how they could have written off on the idea that became that front end. You show a picture of a Defender to anyone who has never seen one before, and the front end is a major part of what defines a Defender. Yet here we have a study in boring. In the opposite of distinct. A grill that looks like it was the result of an argument, and lights that give it a sad, depressed, cartoon character look. How did they approve this as an end result?

And are any of the rest of you just in awe at how exceptionally long it took for them to come out with this ONE vehicle? In the mean time, every other car company in the world has designed and released multiple vehicles that have more bold and more innovative design elements than this. It literally feels like they are reluctantly just producing the DC100 because they really have not done anything over the past 8 years on he Defender, but then realized that they had to do something.

At least you won't need to deal with everyone gawking at your truck and asking you stupid questions.

No but the amount of stupid questions asked to an owner of a previous model Defender will surely increase. Both in the amount and the level of stupid.

Oh you have the older one?

Probably not as nobody will know what is the older one nor will they see any connection to it whatsoever.
