Do you have any links?
I thought about it for a little bit - an electric water pump may be a better alternative to engine-driven one. My daughter was terrified once when the water pump bearing failed and the belt slipped off in her Classic.
Just like electric-powered brake booster in a Classic or P38.
They’re using the factory water pump as an idler pulley with the impeller removed, so you still would have the water pump bearing that will fail.

In my opinion, the weak link in using aftermarket fans is the fan switch. I want to find a genuine part (from any brand) to control the fan relays. What I’m doing now works fine, but I have my doubts for how the aftermarket fan switches are going to work 5,10, or 15 years down the road.

Not if you got a shorter belt. I'm not sure what the point is though. Parasitic loss at RPM is minimal, it can still fail, and it's expensive.

I’m not saying how it could be done, I’m saying how that shop is doing it from what I’ve been told by a tech who works there. If you eliminate the water pump as a pulley you would then need to switch to an electric fan, which is probably the root cause of the issue they’re trying to solve by installing the electric water pump in the first place.
