NAS 90 Axles - Any alternatives

Is there an easy button answer on getting the "correct" axles for a 94 NAS 90? Mine are salvageable but need stripping and some bracket welding and I would like to keep it rolling. Can I source axles from another Defender that would still be "correct" for the vehicle? TIA.

I actually think you can get them from a Disco (way more available) and they are the same. My part manuals are not for the Disco, but if you download or look for the part numbers, I believe the axle housings are identical.

You have to be wary of some of the older axles as they are not the 24 spline axles, but that shouldn't affect the housings--that is just the diff and axles.

I actually have a set from a 96 Disco, that I could certainly use. These have the ABS sensor holes, but not sure what else. Definitely 24 spline and already 4 bolt rear diff flange.

I do show one number for both: FTC3437

I think you are just fine. Plus I don't think the ABS sensor is in the axle--just the hub assembly I believe, and that is interchangeable.

I have disco axles with Defender parts outboard of the axle housing(on the front) on my 110. Rear is basically identical, the ABS hole doesn't affect anything

Only downside is that the axle number stamped on it won't be correct if you are wanted that 100% original

Last rotted axle I had in got blasted and new YRM brackets welded on. paint and back on the truck it went.

If you are rotting a component with the material thickness of an axle, how does the rest look?

frame is toast too. I may take the route that @expanse took, but will just be more of a PITA to build a roller and swap over. Definitely fixable, it's just steel.

Disco axle is a direct swap. There are minor differences, but if you aren’t doing a concours restoration, you’ll be good with a disco axle.

As for the ABS sensor, you can either replace the swivel pin, or just snip the wire off the top of the abs sensor. Really depends on how far you want to go with it.
