I’m looking for a high-quality drill press that's made in the USA. Budget is $4K. I've looked around and everything that I'm finding seems to be either made overseas or made in some undisclosed location. A friend recommended Delta but I wasn't able to find anything about their production on their site.

Are there other good brands out there?

Just thinking about it, what about getting a mill? I might be wrong, but I think you can use a mill as a drill press. Seems like your budget would allow for a nice older American made mill.

Maybe a Jet? some of their stuff is made in USA . If you have the space a used bridgeport J head mill would work but, will need a phase converter if you do not have 3 phase . They also weigh about 2k lbs

I have an older Powermatic 1150. It's solid, adjustable speed, parts are still available but I heard that they've been bought.
Any of the older American made ones would go for a less than a quarter of your budget in good condition. I bought mine used from a guy losing his shop space in the city. I think I paid $500 for it and three other machines.

I would love a mill but I'm pretty sure that my wife would divorce me.

However, at this point, I may just have to buy a trailer when we make our next (and hopefully last) move out west.

I don't think Jet stuff is USA made, but they make these mill drills. Probably not as heavy or large as a traditional mill.

Man, those are sweet and much cheaper than the really high quality American stuff. It would be fun to be able to mill, too.

But man...fuck China.
