Issue du jour: I noticed yesterday that once warm, when I slow down and come to a stop on the road and the engine goes to idle, the oil pressure light comes on. As soon as engine is off idle, the light goes off. This a '94 NAS, 3.9L V8. Currently using Rotella T4 15W-40 and although I have 176k miles on the clock the engine was rebuilt in 2008 (I think) about 20k miles ago. I think I have a leak from the front cover as well. I've read about a few different paths to attempt to address: 1) 20W-50 oil, 2) replace the oil pressure switch or 3) rebuild the engine.
Would like to avoid option 3, so I will start with the heavier oil and go from there, but in the meantime a few questions. How much damage is this doing? Is it enough to just keep the engine off idle to prevent issues until I can address for real? Need to get the front cover leak taken care of but is there anything else I should look into as a possible cause? Any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks all.
