LEGO Defender

We've all seen the box (& wished the new Defender looked more like it). My son got me one for Christmas. I'll post pics as/when I get time to put this together.
2573 pieces  !?! 4-speed sequential gear box, moveable high/low gear & D-N-R selectors, pistons go up & down... Lego's have come a long way since I used to build 'em.

This should probably be in General, not technical discussions (It seems pretty technical to me!). Mods feel free to move it.

My family got me one. :)

~500 page assembly manual is a little intimidating:

Phase 1 (of 4) done. A few "leftover" parts, but I'm pretty sure I did everything right:
10142

Phase 2 of 4 done, and some more leftovers. The detail is incredible; the winch even has a brake:

"A few leftover parts"... maybe it really IS a Defender! It will be interesting to see if I have different leftover parts on my build.

Thanks for posting pictures of the front cover of the manual. The lego app lets you scan the QR and view it digitally. I wanted to see the manual before buying one.

Managed to get through bag 2 finally. Few missing pieces and had to modify another. Decided to change to a lighter green for the body.

Norton, you are inspiring me to customize mine too!... when I can figure out what part is what. To make sense of it, I may have to assemble, mark parts, disassemble, prep parts & reassemble - Just like I do on the real one.

No need to take things apart just paint in small batches. The only thing I had to take apart was the rear suspension after it was all together I installed the shocks in the wrong hole. Pain in the ass to remove the back half of the truck to move. Needle nose pliers and a small flat head help to disassemble.

The instructions/pictures are pretty good. Look ahead and assemble sections and then paint. I did tape and paint some sections too.

Looking for these tires from this kit if anyone has a lead
