Laser sight for Glock 23

I'm mostly buying it to lock in the center console of the truck. A cop friend told me that there is a school of thought that you should use a laser sight and keep your weapon close to your body to protect it from being taken in a confrontation. I've never shot this way and wanted to pick up a laser sight to see how it goes. Not sold on it either way.

First I wrote this half dissertation in response to this. Then I deleted it.
Whatever you end up doing, make sure it fits in the console how you like it. There are plenty of custom holster makers that could make you anything you want.

It's not in the console to protect me while in the truck. I don't think a handgun would be ideal for an attack situation when you're dealing with someone just outside the door. I suspect that a knife would be more effective and I carry an automatic folder in my pocket. The only time I take the Glock out of the center console is when I'm fueling up in a sketchy part of town or sleeping in a tent or the back of the truck at night.

I don't feel the need to carry concealed 24/7 but understand why many people do. It's just not my thing.

I console carry for essentially the same reason (I drive a lot for work and you never know where you may stop for fuel or a Coke), but wouldn't hesitate to be ready to defend myself from the vehicle if needed. But, in the car I carry in 99.9% of the time, the console sucks for conveniently holding a full size pistol. I can't get it to close and have the grip ready to deploy. I assume you may not have this issue. My F150 actually had a cutout in the console cover for a 1911 style pistol and spare mag. It was awesome. This car, meh...I'm still working it out.

I will also say, my console doesn't lock, so it NEVER stays in the car. I don't believe in glass as a suitable barrier for theft.
