Congratulations on your ham ticket and first contact! Are you going to study up for General while you're still hot?

Congrats!
Best cheap ass, throw away handheld out there. Put it in a ziplock bag and it's waterproof. Drop it or loose it and your only out $23.50.

I normally don't buy cheap stuff but I would be pissed if I lost or damaged my Yaesu handheld. Sometimes you need a disposable handheld.
Made my first contact today on a UV-5r. They do work.

Interesting how the contents of the exams vary with the license level.
I repeatedly made more mistakes at Tech level than at Extra - despite hundreds of tries on HamTestOnline.

Anybody have any experience with an Arrow J-Pole?
I need a stealthy dual band antenna and my HOA isn't very HAM antenna friendly.

I have that exact antenna. I could sell mine to you since I don't use it anymore.

J-poles work fantastically well and that's a good one.

Actually, it would be super fun to design a multi-band HF/VHF/UHF antenna that looks just like a large TV Yagi antenna.
