OK Looongshot I know but this is a feasibility study at the moment. This will go behind a 3.9 that will sit in a Midget. I have the prospective car lined up and since it's a rust bucket I though as long as I'm cutting might as well go all in. So possible V8 Midget in my future. If you can help let me know

While the Rover V8 in an MG Midget has been done, it is not an easy fit.
The Midget is really not worth the trouble because the gearing of the rear end is incorrect and doesn't support the conversion very well as it's just too weak.
You would be much better off going with am MGB as your base vehicle and locating the ring and pinion from an MGBGT V8.

Doing a little more R&D it seems a mustang drivetrain will be a better option for fit, parts, etc. Plus I can run the standard EFI on there.

Interesting about the Mustang drive-train.
BTW. drove MGs until I was in my 30s.
Still have a YT, TD, MGB, and one of the rare ZB Varitone Magnettes.
Even owned a basket case MGA twin cam for about a year, but sold it for college tuition money before doing anything with it.
Never owned a midget as they are tiny.

Space is going to be your issue with the conversion and the V8 LT77 used in the Rover SD1 had a long bellhousing. Check out D&D Fabrications at aluminumV8.com. They have a short bellhousing for the Rover V8 that mates to other 5spds and they specialize in MGB V8 conversions. I have bought a couple of cams from those guys in the past and have found them to be very helpful.

There was a MGB GT V8 once upon a time. I suspect that had a 4 speed with GKN overdrive. But can’t recall. That was probably 73 so I was only 11...but a car nut already.

My thoughts-Why the hell not try to do it? Probably plenty of bulkhead easing and transmission tunnel work, plus an interesting custom radiator .

As for space I will probably just widen the whole thing 4 inches. Cut the body right down the center and open it up.

I think that's what was done to fit the V8 into a midget in the past.
I could think of some other projects for your above average skills, but that's just my lack of admiration for the MG Midget.

Yup an MGB with a V8 is a real Cobra killer. I'm gonna scale back on major projects for now and leave this as imagineering for the time being.
