IP replacement... lift pump bad?

I replaced my injection pump. It was pouring out diesel around a seal. I have it all installed now I am trying to bleed the fuel system. I rotated the engine so that I can get the lift pump to actuate, but I am getting no fuel movement. Could my lift pump have gone out and me just now be figuring it out? Can the 200 run if the lift pump is going out? It ran pretty well even though the IP was leaking fuel before I replaced it.

Did you loosen the injector lines and bleed the pipes? It takes a more than a minute of cranking (in small bursts) to refill the lines.

anything is possible with lift pumps. is fuel getting from the tank to the lift pump? from pump to filter? filter to fitting @ IP?

Yes they can run with no lift pump. Drove a 110 from from Bennington Vt to Annapolis Md pulling a small trailer with a failed/ no lift pump.

I drove around for 6 months with a bad lift pump and had no issues other than an extended crank. If in doubt, just replace it since they're so cheap.

When I changed my fuel filter recently I didn't have any fresh diesel to fill the new filter. I just used a small amount of compressed air through the filler cap to force the fuel up to the filter (bleeder on filter open).

Another reason to switch to the stanadyne fm100. I use mine with the optional hand priming pump on the top of the filter. A couple pushes down and everything is 100% bled

I think it went bad. I have cracked open the lines at the injectors and pumped for around 45 minutes. When I got no fuel I went further back in the system to the top of the fuel filter and still nothing, then I switched to an external fuel source and still no joy. I ordered a new lift pump. Ill report back

Do you have a sedimenter? I ran for a few years without one and found I would regularly lose the lift pump due to dirt holding the check valve open. Added the sedimenter and have had no further lift pump issues.
