I Need a New Floor Jack

My ancient Craftsman floor jack needs to be replaced and I'm reading that the new Craftsman jacks are not the same quality. My wrenching buddy says to get a 2 ton jack from NAPA, what say you?

I agree, don't buy the new Craftsman. I have one of the old heavy duty Craftsman jacks. Has to be 20 years old and it works perfect. I bought a new one about 4 years ago. I have already thrown it away.
Can't speak to the Napa one. I actually looked at those a while back but didn't buy it yet.

The steel NAPA is the one I got, big price increase since I got mine. You need a extra bit of pipe insulation on the handle I found out.

The Crapsman one I bought self-destructed, been using a aluminum one from HF and it's been fine, actually bought a second...

On the way to NAPA I stopped at Harbor Freight. I have had such bad luck with their stuff I couldn't bring myself to buy a jack from them. Honestly over the years I have had hand tools snap, electric tools throw sparks or consume themselves and cutting wheels turn into high speed projectiles. I do have an 8 ton bottle jack that keeps going but it is "old" Harbor Freight from when they first started in business. My buddy owns nothing but HF tools and has never had an issue so go figure.
I bought the 3.5 ton NAPA steel jack this afternoon. It is pretty freaking hefty, lets see if it holds up.
Happy New Years all!!!!

I saw those but it's easier for me to just throw a jack stand under what ever I'm working on...Did you buy the steel one that weights 115lbs...

As for HF, it is what it is, needed a floor jack, both are fine and have I've had them for over 4 years...

I too am running HF, rarely used in anger but does the job. I tend to use jacking jack stands more than a floor jack (http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/powerbuilt-3-ton-all-in-one-jack), but that's just personal preference.

Happy New Years to all on here as well.

Ray, Never seen those before. I like the idea. Next time I see a Tractor Supply Ill stop and check them out. Looks like a good way to go. Often I have to jack up an excel in two spots to place a jack stand.

They work well for what they do, I think I started using them more back when I was living in a townhouse that had a single car garage that just held the bikes/tools/camping gear and thus I was doing most of my work on the asphalt outside-rolling jacks weren't much use and I wanted stability to do suspension swaps. At ~$30 a pop they weren't too much more than regular jackstands and for lifted coil sprung trucks they are about perfect in height.

I always had good luck with the ones I got from Northern Tool. I think the brand is Torin maybe?

Ive got the Napa 3.5, I bought it for myself and getting one for a friends shop. I really like it a lot, lifts high and fits under my mazda. I see this jack in a lot of garages and tire stores. its a heavy SOB.

the bottle jack jack stand is pretty sweet
