How to use BG 44K in maximizing chances passing California smog test for 95 NAS D90

Have driven the truck about 500 miles total the last 2 1/2 years, sits in a temp controlled garage with battery charger but with 1/2 tank of 6 month old gas. Just moved to California so have not driven it in 4 months. Had entire ignition system and exhaust system replaced 2 years ago in NJ (including oxygen sensors and catalytic converter) as it was stalling and this seemed to have fixed things. Now that I moved the truck to California and need it smog checked so want the best chance of passing as a failed test is reported immediately and makes things more complicated. Never had a issue while in NJ passing but recently, no need as it grandfathered out of NJ requirements.

Truck has about 100 K miles. In adding BG 44K, should I drive off the remaining 1/2 tank of old gas first and then add the BG 44K with a full tank of premium gas or just dump the BG 44K in the remaining 1/2 tank of old gas?

Depending on what shop you go to...if the cats that were welded in do not have the correct CA compliant cats. instant fail. I went through this and even though all appeared stock, no serial number and was forced to cut out brand new cats for ca compliant version. welcome to ca.

thanks. Just called my NJ service guy and confirmed this. Anyone near Santa Monica recommended that can do this?

Thanks Jimmy. Just to clarify, do I bring it in to LR Santa Monica and request a smog inspection or do I call and ask for which smog inspection station they use?

If it is a nas it should be fine. Put some highway miles, make sure no check engine codes and should be fine.

Had issue getting a 911 through emissions in MD. Best advice is go in with fresh gasoline and
Run the vehicle like you stole it @ highway speeds just before going to test station. Cats are @ their highest efficiency when hot.

Yes, I will definitely run it at highway speeds as this is the vehicle I am most concerned about. I just got my 2007 GT3 inspected after not driving it for 6+ months and it passed without a hiccup.

Wonder if there was an answer to this one...

A failed smog check is not a big deal, even if it is reported (to DMV). But if it fails so spectacularly as to get reported as a gross polluter, then DMV may make you take it to a BAR location to be inspected.

You have to go to a star station if you're a gross polluter. When we bought my fiance's '99 Miata it was deemed a gross polluter, have had to go to Star station's for emissions ever since.

After I brought it back to stock it's passed with flying colors.

@wicks You don't have to go to any particular station. Call around locally and see who will take it, If you've never thrown a code then you should be good to go

Sorry, don’t know if I talked to him via PM or never responded… The dealership does not handle smog checks for customers, so call and ask who they use. I don’t live in Ca anymore, so I no longer work there.

Does CA have a Vintage Tag program? Here in PA with Vintage Tags emissions or safety checks no longer required.

Nope, 1976 and newer have to get a smog check every two years. This year's attempt at moving the biennial inspection exemption to 1980 (AB-220) appears to be dead in the water.

My 94 hasn't had trouble passing. I replaced the cats with a set from AB over 15 years ago. never been an issue.
