How much weight can the fenders hold?

Stupid question, how much weight can the fenders hold? I see pictures of people standing on them and mine make noise n buckle just by placing a screwdriver on them.

Iirc the mod fenders have a stiffiner in place. But why do I see people standing on their fenders n hoods all the time?

I weigh 155 and have stood on them many times, but only when there are wing to checker plates installed or when using the factory fender covers that have a piece of wood inside to prevent damage

The wing tops are 1.3mm aluminum. That's really thin for any aluminum body panel, and especially one likely to support a load. It's very common to see them dented from minimal use. Series trucks had thicker body panels all around. Tread plates are about 3-4mm thick and add significant strength, but don't increase the strength around the edges where the wing top mates to other panels. MOD trucks use steel reinforcement plates under the front 1/3 of the wing tops for strength. Those plates can be hard to find. SP4x4 sells wing tops that they claim are 1.5mm thick, but in fact are not, so don't waste your money there. Eventually I plan on working on a better solution for my 90 build.

This is how they find out (aware I'm not helping)

I'm 210 lbs & step from the front wheel to the protector plate to access my roof rack in the front (usually strapping down paddle boards). I'm careful to step, not jump, & stay toward the narrower part of the wing where there is less chance of it flexing.

Six years now no dents! 😆😉. I regularly stand on mine… 175Lbs and with these nice fender guards it has been great. No worries on the load, anchor points or dents. 👍🏻

A lot of people don't like checkerplate. I like dents even less. I admit it makes the most sense for horizontal surfaces that are tread upon. But plated wingtops also serve as primo work surfaces.
Alum checkerplate mated to steel rear x-members makes me cringe.

Those look great. I personally dislike chequer plate so that's a nice alternative. Did you make them?
I did not make them, I think they were a Bearmach purchase. Hard to find and very solid with powder coating. Like you I am not a fan of the look nor kneeling or elbows on the diamond plate (ouch!). Closest version I could find 👇🏻

I wouldn’t recommend solid If you get snow and go out in winter or muddy conditions. I had them. Slippery as fawk! Swapped to checker. If you have mud on the sole of your boot or a wet flip-flop, smooth sucks. IMHO.
