Hinged Wing Top Protector

In the recent issue of Rovers Magazine there is a 130 rebuild that had an air compressor in the LH wing. The picture was small but showed what looked like a hinged wintop protector and easy access inside. I've been thinking of doing something to my RH so I can get easy access to the air filter that is in there.

I'll try and get a pic of the article and post but has anyone done that mod or know of a company that make a wingtop latch system?

Looks like a custom job. Piano hinge added to a standard protector. You can see that whole setup is cut up. Doesn't go back to the bulkhead. Either way, cool setup.

It’s not exactly what you are looking for (in that it doesn’t have checkerplate protector) but Garrison Outfitters and maybe others places at least used to sell a locking hinged box that would drop into the unused air intake space on the top of the wing. (Don’t recall as to LH or RH)

Great idea. For overlanding, more stowage space is better. Thanks.
However, air compressors need some air circulation.

Part of my idea for and air filter there would be to have either a scoop to direct fresh air into that cavity or some other ventilation.

@donb I saw the same thing...have been following Mahker on youtube...but no close up or details...was also curious about their 6mm sliders. As for air filter - exactly what I was thinking for my Right side. I currently have my air filter tucked under the wing (r2.8 conversion and RHD)...so my fresh air comes in from the wing vent and I made an ABS box for the filter. Not (yet) fully sealed box, but enough to keep out the splashes and force cold air vs engine compartment air into the filter. I think it would be easy to piano hinge the 5bar protector plate....I just haven't convinced myself that I want to cut the wing for the access.

If you don’t have the under wing or fender washer reservoir, then this is a good use for unused space
