Hello - I have a just-installed 300Tdi, R380 and LT230-1.4 transfer case in my ex-MOD 110, replacing the original 2.5NA, Lt77 and LT230-1.6. I have go

Hello - I have a newly installed, great running, powerful, but leaking 1995 300Tdi/R380/LT230-1.4 with more leak issues than can be tolerated.
1) Engine is leaking some oil from that apparent 'breather' hole, without any plug but which has screw threads, positioned at front bottom of block just below timing case and just forward of oil pan bolts. Youtube videos suggest it could be oil leaking from main seal, bypassing any entry into timing belt case, and exiting out that port. Is that likely the oil-leak source? The hole is temporarily plugged to assess leak volume as well as stop driveway staining, and will be periodically opened to drain out. Is that an OK strategy until leak engine seal(s) repair is undertaken?
2) The newly installed 1.4 Transfer case is leaking gear lube heavily and reportedly must be removed for the repair and re-install, OR could I remove this and re-install my not-leaking, ex-MOD 2010 rebuild 1.6 Transfer case. Does anyone have any on-road driving experience with 300Tdi/R380 and the ex-MOD LT230 1.6 T-case? Is it OK, but for some (minor?) increase in RPM's? This truck rarely has any highway use, and regularly lots of local/intown, trailer-towing, and off-road/beach travel, so am I all set, or headed for problems?
Thank-you, all. Cheers!

1.6 is going to be garbage behind a 300tdi, top speed will be in the low 50s.

I know you already know that you should have resealed this engine/trans/tcase when it was outside of your truck, I just have to say it.

Front timing case leak should not be plugged up , the oil is already contaminating the belt and it will have the be replaced. Plan on doing the front main seal , timing case seals , cam seal and oring, Water pump and timing belt. this can be done with the engine in the truck

Remove the 1.4 and have it resealed then reinstall it, dont install the 1.6

Even in place doing the front crank seal is quite doable. Pull the cover off and have a look. Pick up a belt kit and seals and just do it. I had a Disco 1:8 Tcase behind my 300tdi and it was great 1:4 and 1:6 are sloths. If you tune your pump or install a boost pin you’ll be golden. BTW do not use synthetic oil in the 300 it will cause more oil leaks. Keep using Dino oil.
Good luck. 👍🏻

I was going to suggest watching Mike @ Brittanica video on fixing t-case leak in vehicle…. But if your option was to reuse the 1.6, you are not opposed to removal for proper sealing
