Grenadier

I'm ready to go with a deposit as well. I never buy year one of a vehicle but definitely considering it depending on final cost here in the US. I'm good with the likely BMW distribution, service, etc. Sold my Grand Cherokee in August and itching to get something.

It won't compete with the Pretender. The platform will allow pickup versions. JLR kissed huge commercial, utility and military markets goodbye when they ditched the Defender. The Grenadier is the vehicle the Defender could've become, rather than a restyled Disco 5 shopping cart. There's no question it has more in common with classic Defenders than the new one. I'm surprised at the lack of enthusiasm expressed here, considering how much people complained that the new Defender is not like the old. It's the true successor to the original, it just won't be built by JLR, or in the UK.

I seriously considered trading my Disco in on a GMC oil burner last night. I've been ignoring the DEF warning, watching it go down from a 1000 mile warning to ~250 or so. In these times, I may drive 250 miles a month, so I figured I had plenty of time to refill my DEF.

I needed to get fuel and the damn car blocked my ability to refuel until I re-upped my DEF, which is a total PITA (the resivoir is small and fills slowly) on the disco to begin with. 20 minutes later after doing a lap around the parking lot I was full of DEF and able to pump fuel.

Then I remembered the Grenadier is coming and decided to cool my jets until I can at least get a good look at what they offer.

The persistent dripping water torture of marketing is getting annoying.

I think if this were Land Rover, we'd all be getting very worried. But this seems to be a car company that is more normal than Land Rover, oddly. So I'm willing to watch, hoping that the long delay is not only a conscious effort at marketing, but a sign of detailed design work being done in the mean time.

I'm very hopeful for the Grenadier.. and hopefully it will be sold in enough places and numbers in the US so we can actually get one.

As a daily driver of a diesel wk2 jeep grand Cherokee I'm all in on the grenadier.

The hydrogen is very interesting although I don't want to be an early adopter of a sector (for the company), brand, vehicle, and propulsion....gotta draw that line somewhere!

The Grenadier would be pretty neat as a Beach Runner. I bet you could make one pretty easily starting with the pickup version.

No sign of anothing other than a 4 door 110 SW yet. Watch episode 7 and you'll see its a full floor to roof internal frame. Any alternative style would require extensive redesign of the vehicle structure. No sign of that so far and would be very expensive.

Youtube has become so incredibly bloated with cutaways and intros for the intros. I can't watch anything anymore on 1:1 speed.

I participated in a Focus Group run by them recently. I had to sign a NDA but what I am about to say is not anything that is not readily available. I will not violate the NDA, but it is not like they exposed any great trade secrets.

I took away that:
They are listening to the consumer, they seem to be grounded in the working man / everyman concept.
Simplicity of design is a core principle.
The focus group was all US buyers, so I assume they are coming here.
They have some very interesting features in the works for the worker / Overlander.

How did you come to be involved in the focus group?

I have been in contact with them asking for details (Ineos) and follow them on their social media. So I assume the PR firm out of LA got my details from those contacts and did some screening of possibly my comments on social media. It was a little over a week ago and there were 6 people throughout the US on our video call. They stated they had other sessions before us. They showed us some mock ups and asked a lot of questions. It was a cool experience.

It's looking better all the time. Something about the new prototypes make it look more... something. Acceptable?
I had to sell my Defender to get my G, and everything about the Grenadier says: Looks like a Defender, built like a GWagen. So maybe it really is the car for my future. ...I just hope the price isn't too astronomical! But I suspect it will start at $80k or higher.

When I did the focus group they were hoping for lower than your number for the fully loaded model, but no promises. Not super cheap but on par with other well appointed 4Runners, Rubicons, and the like.
