Ghetto Fab

Thread for ghetto fab white trash truck mods(not really but I don't know how to classify this). I don't want to rhino line the floor panels, but want some grip. Does anybody see any drawbacks with grip tape on the easily replaceable floor panels(like what you'd find on aircraft steps, "stairwells" on ships, etc.)? I dont plan on covering the whole thing i just want a few spots where my boots regularly slip when wet. I moatly daily drive this thing and none of the ejection seat approved boots have traction worth a damn. I'm weird and don't like mats.

I have factory floor mats and I think they have some double sided tape holding them in place. I haven't paid that close of attention whenever I remove them, but there is something sticky that keeps them from sliding. They also seem to insulate from the exhaust heat pretty well.

I've had good luck installing & removing grip tape. I'll have to find the data tomorrow but it's a MIL-SPEC product, it use's a clear adhesive backing while the non mil-spec tape I found uses a paper backing.
I'll try to remember to look at the grip tape we use on the C-130's tomorrow.

oh sweet baby jeebus.....let's just say he's dressed up like an astronaut in that thar pressure suit...:D

Greenspan, I found some nice rubber tread stuff that looks like "tread-brite"
It's adhesive backed; I stuck some on my sliders because they were slippery.
I think I got it from Ace hardware.

I'm flying the U-2 and T-38 now. Yourself?

Jeff, do you have any pictures of what it looks like? I'm leaning towards a grip tape like Mike described above.

I leave the flying to others . .
I'm a Manufacturing Engineer at Lockheed Martin, currently on C-130's, spent 14 years on the F-22 Raptor (2 working escape systems with the BFG seat & cockpit assembly) and four on F-35. Prior to that was a fabricator & structures mechanic for 14 years. Yeah, I'm old!
I'll post the specifics on the grip tape tomorrow.

Alternate option for you is to remove the floorboards, paint them with clear traction paint and reinstall...

Back when I used to skate, they made a clear plastic grip tape. It was very grippy but mostly clear and not paper. This might be a way to get grip but preserve most of the color of the stock floorboards.

Not really my style but I see where you are coming from. I ran my 110 without mats in Tacoma because it leaked like a sieve and I didn't want water to be trapped under there.

I'll check out all these options. Thanks guys. Chris, board tape was mentally what I was thinking but wasn't sure what other choices were. These are the original floor boards. Paint is pretty worn but they are in good condition otherwise.

Mike and Jeff, how did each of those products hold up to wetness like rain or water? Primarily aiding in anti slip from wet boots so I want to make sure it doesn't come off because it is doing its job.

NAS-ROW, the only place where a U-2 pilot and a Lockheed Martin engineer can discuss aerospace grade grip tape for the floorboards of glorified British farm junk.

I wonder how many other places deal with ejection seat approved boot traction issues...

I mean really....these are issues to be dealt with! LOL

Greenspan, the rubber treadbrite stuff has stayed stuck on my sliders for 2 or 3 years now.
I'm also sure it could be removed easily enough by peeling and some Goo-gone.
