Future Imports

I'm reading some chatter on the GWagon forum that Land Rover is putting out info saying that older RRCs from Europe are inelligable for import to the USA. They specifically discuss the 1987 model.

Am I missing something? Have Federal import regs changed? Isn't it still 25 years and "original" configuration?

LRNA is stating that they have done a study of the situation, and in their wisdom, they are telling registered importers that the old RRC cannot be brought in.

Given LRNA's past actions, I'm wondering if this isn't simply a lie to try to curtail the importation of RRCs in the same way that Defenders have been brought in over the past 10+ years. I think they are afraid of what it does to their market, and they are playing this game to try to get people to give up on trying to import, even though Federal regs would say otherwise.

Judging by the amount of imported classics ranging from 1970-1994 that I get calls for, I would lean towards it being false.

Interesting the specific model year, 1987, mentioned is the first year Range Rover was officially marketed in the US.
LR has no problem restoring the early 2 door Rangies and charging pretty sure over $100k for them.

Aside from the fact that people like me would buy a nice RRC before a new RR, and the fact that a lot of people really do see the difference between what Rover was, versus what they are now, the market dent is going to be small. However, I don't think it's not far from the mark to say that the message they are sending, directly to registered importers, is "hands off". LRNA did send boatloads of lawyers out to as many independent mechanics and parts makers/suppliers as they could to get them to stop using "Rover" in their names. This is more of the same.

Completely false information on the 87 classic. Registered importers are firms with secure facilities, that are allowed, under bond, to import a vehicle that is not 25 yrs old and bring that vehicle up to DOT and EPA's requirements. Bond is returned after vehicle is inspected and tested and approved for entry by those agencies. Seriously doubt JLRNA is directly sending any message to anyone about importation of vehicles exempted from EPA and DOT and not in need of registered importers having been built 33yrs ago.
It was a single trademark attorney,Jennifer Hetu, and she did everything from her office in Michigan. Dealt with her directly myself. Fee's generated from chasing down all companies with Rover in their name earned her a partnership in Honigman LLP. Did my part running up JLRNA's bill by not acquiesing for months. https://www.honigman.com/attorneys-jennifer-m-hetu.html

Why would you give credence to comments about JLRNA on a Gwagen forum ? Do you question the crap being spawned by the media daily or buy into that as well ?
