Fuel Cans

I'm a huge fan of the Scepter MFC for diesel transport. I need a few more for a future trip and am finding them tough to locate and expensive.
Anybody have any experience with the metal cans AB sells? I don't give a crap about CARB so that isn't an issue to me.

Get the good German cans or wait to get Scepter stuff - the knock off NATO cans work for occasional use, and you can get them anywhere for cheap (Amazon).

I never had a problem w/ the metal cans from AB and such. I've taken mine on bunches of trips. They get banged up and the paint isn't the best so they rust a little where they get rubbed but it doesn't really impact the function. I've never seen a German-made fuel can but it's hard to believe that they're really that much better.

EE has a couple of good options, BTW:

Wavian cans: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/wavian/

Pro Quip plastic cans: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/proquip/

I have a few, Chris, will show you whenever I have a chance.
They are better in tiny details - but compared to Wedco cans hastily made in Latvia.
BTW, that http://deutscheoptik.com/ looks like a cool source.

I bought a "4 pack" a couple of years ago and they were cheap Chinese copies, the caps leaked and the did not sit flat(welded seam was too high). Be careful of the off-brand versions. Wavian have good quailty.

I like the AB ones having seen them when I visited the store. They lacked the cheap nasty welding you can get to see on some out there.
I've become less concerned about running out of fuel than I did in the early days of d90 ownership, but still 15 gallons doesn't get you far....
How do folk feel about the 5 gallon plastic jerry cans v Metal?

Yep - this is why we carry Wavan and Scepter only...

I don't know if I can come up with a valid reason that a metal one is better than plastic, but I prefer metal.

Yep, agreed and always have used metal for fuel and plastic for water. And made sure the spout had a screen.
