Exhaust Temperature Sensor Install (The hard way)

Adding an exhaust temp sensor. As I have an extra 200tdi to practice on, I pulled the manifold, drilled, tapped & installed the sensor mounting port. I like the result & feel like I can do the same to the installed manifold, but instead decided to tackle the removal process to swap the newly tapped manifold with the installed one (This is how I learn about my 110).

Now to get this stuff out of the way & take the old one off...

I guess there was a reason I didn't tap the old one in place - the manifold gasket was shot & leaking from both ends. You can see the the compromised spots on the back side - flipped it upside down to show. Looking forward to a cleaner engine after this!

Ordered a new gasket & thought I would have to wait a week. Picked up a dome light from erover82 & he had a new gasket he could spare, so I got right on it.

Smooth clean surfaces.

Interesting that the old manifold had a bolt/nut set up at one of the lower corners, rather than a stud. I have some extras, so the valve block now has all studs. Torqued to 23nm.

Sensor location installed in the manifold & engine back together.

Drivable again! Waiting on an ordered center dash plate to finish wiring & mount the gauge.

To tighten up the bottom oil drain use an offset O2 sensor wrench, I grind it larger to fit over the tube. They are cheap.
