As far as I know the stock R380 can handle 280lbs ft of torque. The Cummins produces 311lbs ft and Axis has apparently already stopped producing adapters for the R380 in favor of the Tremec 4050. Probably more of a cost basis decision as the Tremec fits multiple vehicles.

They use the R380 with the Ashcroft bearing upgrade and they are fine. Ashcroft agrees that they will be fine. Many people are running TD5s with a lot more torque and have no issues.

curious to see one of those tremec setups fitted, as id like to see the trans and engine mounts. cool that more options are becoming available for the 2.8.

Chevy 250 inline 6 cylinder with R380 Stumpy or the ZF automatic Mark Garrenton is putting together with GM belhousing adapter.
1.22 LT230, Holley Sniper EFI 2GC Small Bore that bolts right to the stock manifold, HEI Ignition.
No timing belts or chains to replace, engine has hydraulic lifters with metal timing gears.
Maintenance is oil and air filter, occasional cap, wires, & rotor.
155 horsepower and 245 foot-pounds of torque.
Bolts right in... convert in a weekend or 2, turn the key and go.

I have a friend who is a series fanatic. Several years back, he actually had Lanny Clark put an electric engine in a series I. It went no faster than 25 and had to be recharged frequently. He donated to a charity and they raffled it off. A non-enthusiast won it and I think it is still on Nantucket. Talk about a curiosity...
