We purchased this axle set from Rovertracks for a client’s 130 but that project scope has since changed.

Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear axle housings with Defender mounting tabs and hub flanges. Tabs are tacked in place but will need to be fully welded. Currently set up for RHD but the bracket to convert the axle to LHD is $12 plus shipping from YRM.

Axles are 6” wider than stock Rover axles but can be cut down to a desired length. Axles can be finished with Rover hubs or the current flanges can be lopped off in favor of a domestic configuration.

Includes:
  • Front and rear axle housings
  • ARB air locker (NIB) for front D44. 30 spline, 3.73 ratio. Can be set up with 4.56 gears if using JK gears
  • Rovertracks rear stub axles to fit 35 spline axles.
  • Rear stub axle nuts
  • Rear hubs machined to take larger bearing to fit 35 spline axles
Parts/machining needed for Rover hubs route:

Front axle:
  • Disco 1 hubs/swivels with Discovery or Defender brakes
  • Swivels need to be machined to accommodate 30 spline axles
  • Longfield type Toyota CV’s. Will require custom flanges and spindle bushings from Rovertracks
  • Front axle shafts will need to be sourced (Branik Motorsports)
Rear axle:
  • 35 spine rear axles (Branik Motorsports)
  • Will need to have drive flanges made
  • Salisbury disc brake brackets, calipers, and rotors
  • Any Dana 60 35 spline carrier will work
$3k firm plus the ride. Shipping will run $200-$500.
Rovertracks can offer further support to the purchaser

BEEEEEF!

God I wish there was a simple axle swap for defenders that used off the shelf bits from more modern vehicles.

The Land Rover axles are good enough but new axles seem to require far less fiddling to get them right.

Does this mean rover tracks is back? Thought they shut down 8 years ago
Keith isn't getting back into it. These were a set he had left over. He's offered to assist in their completion so that the buyer isn't left hanging.

Prob the easiest is a 609 using F250 unit bearings.

It's a sunk cost at this point.....$1600 shipped without ARB RD117 locker or $2350 shipped with locker included.

I'm interested in this setup. i know rover tracks have closed but is there a write up anywhere about the best way to go about building a set of these. I'm in Australia so will probably source used axles and clean all the brackets off. I'm assuming the suspension mounts are from yrm. but some more details on what is required to run these with disco/defender swivel hubs etc would be awesome.

I think you’re on the right track with modifying used. But any chance the Australian Military have any stocks of Salisbury axles sitting in boxes looking for a home?
