My son, who is 500+ miles away at school, is having a door lock problem. His door will only open from the outside. Is this likely an actuator spring failure?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Will pass along the good news. Dealing with that actuator in the ice/snow sounds like no fun.

no, adjustment is needed, pull the panel and you'll see the problem, cant remember what rod to rotate to tighten the linkage
I'm not sure that's right. The linkage adjustment problem is where it becomes increasingly difficult to open the door from the outside by pulling the latch. That's an easy fix: pull the door card, disconnect the linkage connected to the latch, give it a turn or two, and reconnect.

If you can't open it from the inside unless you hold the latch button up with the other hand, then the spring has probably broken. Lots of sellers online for new springs.

Ha! Thanks gents. The springs are not a big investment so i’ll suggest he order a set as he’ll probably need them eventually, if not already.

Closing the loop. Problem solved. Apparently my son has no classes on Fridays (very Jelly) and he was able to get away with only adjusting the bar/rod. Thanks fellas!

Be careful, too much adjustment and the outer one will work and the inner will stop!
