Disco 1 fuel tank in a Series 3 109?

Does anybody know if a Disco 1 fuel tank would fit in the rear of a 109? I'm planning to begin resurrecting a 1971 109 next year and a couple of us were talking about possibilities. Dumb idea, or so crazy it could work?

Building a trailer with a 110 pickup bed on a D1 chassis. Still haven't figured out how to get the oem tank to work. Routing of the filler neck is the main hang up. We were able to graft a 110 rear x-member to the D1 rails so some dimensions aren't different.

Call me crazy but I was just wondering this the other day. If an early RRC tank fits a 110, it’s not a huge stretch to imagine a disco 1 tank fitting a 109. I understand it’s tomatoes to potatoes here, but until Ike makes his stainless tanks I have been chewing through aftermarket tanks and am in the same boat of looking for something longer lasting.

It may be a fool's errand, but it's worth checking until it proves to be a dead end. I may have an available tank to play around with in the coming months. If it works, I'll make a note here. The routing does seem like the major hang-up. Maybe what it lacks in easy routing it makes up for in not fitting well between the rails.

The early RRC tank is the same tank as a 110, like the same part #.

This is apples and oranges, the two don't look remotely similar

There is a crossmember on the back of a 109 frame that goes in the slot in the top of the tank.

You could likely fit it in the middle of the tub up high, but you’ll be fabricating custom mounts and supports. Some people use a Jeep tank in their 109 and fab the supports.

This is an option too if you wanted…..open up the check book though.

I’m open to all manner of possibilities. My checkbook, however, is not.
