Not entirely true.

For the most part things have just paused. prices will only fall if owners decide they need to liquidate. so far, I have seen more people wanting to buy (a hard asset) than needing to sell. but, it is early.

2008/2009 kicked off a 10 year run up in the 7 figure car market, which stalled out about 2 years ago. so with things having been flat in that market for some time, this event may generate some liquidity and get things moving again.

a month from now all will be more clear.

That being said, the D90 in question was a "world record" sale and it was never in danger of selling near that amount again in the near future. The BaT sale was just a stunt.

What did a NAS bring in late 2008-2009? Or Ferrari or Porsche? I remember seeing a f430 sell in 2008 in the 50K range.

I sold Yeastie, 1994 NAS90 for 16k. You could buy nice trucks all day for under 30. Low miles 97s could get more.

You are already seeing the market soften and folks listing their "excess' toys. As this drags on prices will continue to reflect the supply and demand curve.

The pinch will be on dealers/flippers/builders. I have to imagine the majority of the folks that bought a $60k Defender over the past couple years had the wherewithal. Those that didnt or don’t aren’t going to move the needle over the near to long term, imo.

I doubt it. This won't set back someone who can afford a $200,000 toy. Never has in he past.

the problem here is it was over bought to begin with, and it just was on the market and everyone knows about it. Most high-profile flip in the Defender market. COVID-19 certainly doesn't help but flipping something at that price with that much exposure all online just isnt the best approach ... that will need to be a closed door buy from an interested collector (in my humble opinion).

Perhaps too many shrooms influencing the last buyer of the 90 in question?
Perhaps. The buyer certainly comes off like he knew very little about what he was getting into, plus there was probably someone in his ear hyping the whole thing up. He’s apparently into G-Wagons now and he’s off to greener pastures.
