Defender Rear Quarter Panel Support - Missing or design flaw?

Hello All,

something I've been pondering for ages -

My defender is missing a strut or support at the rear quarter panels (behind rear wheel).

My 1995 NAS 90 also did not have any such support here but I've seen it on several series vehicles.

With the diesel engine on my current 90 - I can see this panel wobbling at idle.

In front of the rear wheel wells, all defenders have a steel support (chassis to body) but its very clear that neither of the 90's I've been familiar with ever had one installed.

Has anyone fabricated or retrofitted a support for this area? I've seen loads of chequer plating but no "struts"

Thanks!

YRM makes a panel support for this location. I've seen trucks with and without them '90s 110s and 130s

Is this what you're referring to?

I bought a pair of these and they look to be the supports for in front of the well - they didn't fit

It's the other flatter ones on their site. And it looks like it goes in front of the wheel not behind it. I think I have two sets on mine one in front one on the rear. Not sure if I needed to modify it or not.

I always kicked myself for actually ordering this because you could probably make one out of a piece of flat bar from home Depot and a drill in about 3 minutes.

Actually its channeled and its quite sturdy; I had someone rear end my quarter panel and i couldnt straighten the panel out because of that damn support.

Just ordered the solid aluminum supports from YRM - will post up some photos of the install for anyone looking to do something similar

These? Do they fit a 90?

The 3 door 110 ones are different than the 90 ones. I have the YRM ones on mine, although I had to take the rear ones off for the SG rear quarter guards
