Defender Prices?

Curious as to what this group thinks Defender pricing is going to look like in the next few years. The NAS Defender market has historically been very strong because they were so rare but now that '94 ROW's are importable, it seems that it would eat into the NAS market and it may cause the NAS to lose some of the cachet that it had for years. Will NAS's still remain collectible if there is a same year ROW that has a better motor available and is cheaper? Even the ROW market seems like it's getting saturated with seemingly more and more Defenders imported every year. Plus with the new 2020 Defender coming out, while in my mind it's not comparable, it's bound to eat into the market share for the NAS-ROW Defenders. Even if you look at auction sites or collector car sources, prices for Defenders don't seem as strong as they have been historically, sure you get the rare, garage queen NAS D90 with 10k miles that sells for 6 figures but the run of the mill, daily drivers, off-roaded Defenders don't seem to be commanding the same prices they were 2 years ago. You still see dealers trying to sell NAS D90's for 80k but they sit there for week after week and don't sell. Just wondering what you all thought.

California is a big, wealthy, car-crazy market. Given that pretty much the only option there are NAS rigs, that alone will cause them to command a premium.

Prices continue to rise for the trucks worldwide, not just here. Demand for parts is the highest its ever been as the trucks are being brought back to life all over the planet. Britpart is doing so well they just bought and absorbed competitor Allmakes and Allmakes off road brand Terrafirma.

No home market or row spec is the same as a NAS and will never be as collectable as those numbered trucks.

Ask Johan, he's in Netherlands on one of his trips right now, prices are high, supply is low in Europe.

Anyone who waited to purchase a defender based on the belief that some next model year will become available and the market will magically soften has regretted that decision. First it was 200's and then 300's and both have become importable with little if any impact on values or demand.
Statements that "the market seems soft for ROW trucks" get posted every six months or so yet prices have sky rocketed and continue to ratchet up since 2008 when row's became eligible, the market for solid trucks is incredibly strong.

If anything overseas prices have jumped up this spring despite covid.

Demand for these trucks is not unique to the US, Americans just tend to have more disposable income than those elsewhere. The demand / desire/ market pressure for the Defender is global.
Three yrs ago UK mot failures used to cost less than 1k gbp. Same truck now is usually priced around 3k or higher and thats for the worst of the rustiest, basically a rolling VIN plate to start from. Cost to get a defender here and through customs with overseas transport to port and import costs averages 3500-4000 USD (my cost) making the rustiest truck you can find 8-9k landed in the US. If you choose a van or pickup configuration, duty jumps to 25%.

My .02 as someone with a bit of skin in.
