The aftermarket has capitalized on the similarity.

LR once again misses the mark. It will sell in Europe because it’s an econo box with a cool factor that puts it ahead of a Yaris Cross and the like. They have messed up by only doing 4 seats versus a third belt in the back. It’ll have no value as a useful automobile over a Mini Clubman or Countryman.

That’s not even getting into the debate about watering down the Defender name for the sake of sales and having it as a “line” next to “Discovery” and “Range Rover.”

JLR and Gerry McGovern had to just go to www.Jeep.com and see what models they needed to make and improve upon. Wrangler 4 door with useful cargo space and load carrying. This thing as the Renegade or whatever.

Not having a bench seat in the rear would be a deal breaker for me. Hopefully that is something that will change.
The Minis are nice vehicles yet the Mini D will have more headroom and again hopefully a decent 4wd drive system.
No doubt it will dilute the Defender name yet will that even matter anymore to the majority of new LR customers? Guessing not so much.
I’m kinda liking it especially if a soft top is offered.
