Cummins Repower ISF 2.8 for Defenders

If I was building a 145 that I intended to run heavily laden or tow 10k with regularly then I'd choose a different engine like an LS.

I would do a 6BT in that scenario. It has become very popular in the UK and there are companies doing most of the conversion parts needed.

Dash teaser before heading to paint. Switches, trim and leather wrap to follow.

No. Its not an Icon, but I like their play on these.

I used some of the same stuff they did, but its different. I reworked a stock dash. It was a challenge to the fab guys.

It turned out super nice as a platform, but for the time, we could have built a new one from scratch.

We dropped in a dakota digital gage (hid the murphy gage in cubby). Dual zone vintage air system and we have a single knob bluetooth audio system with dsp.
At this point, why not?

Stumpy R380 from Ashcroft arrived today. A pic later tonight when I get home. Almost to point of a swap thread. Just need Axis adapters.

As promised. I would think this a junky repackage after customs inspection, not how Ashcroft would have shipped it.

Email from Cummins:
" I was told you have a datalogger on your Defender as part of the BETA program. I was wondering if you would like the new calibration loaded to your Defender? It has some OFC updates for emissions, the MAF auto correct update, as well as a peak torque increase to 310 ft-lbs. Cummins will be releasing this new cal out to everyone in Sept. "

For those who arent understanding my enthusiasm for these engines in defenders, torque is the important "seat of the pants" performance number, forget the HP rating

For instance, the Gem's injection rover 4.6 V.8 (the 4.6 that didn't suck) was rated @ 220 hp but only made 280 ft lbs or torque.

The Cummins makes considerably more power & achieves it @ 2++ times the fuel economy of the fuel injected V8.

The legendary 2000-2003 Ford Powerstroke 7.3 liter engine (2 and a half times the displacement) made 500 ft lbs of torque in stock tune.

Was told this as well in conversation

What are our options for a transmission that can handle 310ft-lbs?

New guy here.

Manual - NV4500 - but that is a pretty big tranny

AX15 and NV3550 can handle 300 lb-ft from what I've been reading. But Jeep guys say they are fine behind SBC's so maybe they'll be fine depending on driving style?

Doug - are you going to use the 280 lb-ft tune for the Ashcroft HD transmissions?

I've been reading into this as well. Twisted and Alive tuning are both putting Ashcroft hd r380s behind 400ftlb td5s

Dave says his HD r380 will be fine. 310 is the new stock tune so thats what all 4 of these trucks we have/are doing, will be. Kraig's, our first one, was reflashed last weekend.

Got it - great to hear the Ashcroft R380 HD will be strong enough. I must have mis-read your other post - thought it said he didn?t think it was strong enough.

Good to know that the HD r380 will be okay with the torque bumped up.
I have a r380 sitting in my garage, is it possible to order the parts from Ashcroft and make it "HD"? I know I can change my transfer case to 1.2 ratio but was wondering if I can also make the r380 HD.

Thank you,
