Converting a diesel tank to gasoline

Converting a diesel tank to gasoline

I am working on swapping the diesel (TDI300) engine of my LRD 130 to a LS3 with 6-speed manual transmission. One of the many questions I will post to this forum is as follows:

  1. Can I re-use the diesel tank with the sending unit for the gasoline motor?
I know I need a new pump to satisfy the 55 lbs required for the LS engine, I am not sure if saving the tank (not the lines) is going to make much of a difference.

Thank you for your comments regarding this issue.

I’m not sure what tank you currently have fitted, but you can get a steel tank for like $200 from rovers north. A diesel tank won’t have a hole for the fuel pump.

if you have the two hole tank that has the return on the top and the sender/pickup in the side it would be supremely easy to add an external electric fuel pump/regulator/filter and reuse the existing circuits.

you would remove the filter head in the engine bay, frame mounted sedimenter (if equipped) and route lines as needed only leaving the tank and chassis lines from the origial system. Beast case ? you also replace the original lines with rubber or new hardlines

prepare for it to be loud FYI

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely check that out.

In tank pumps run quieter and cooler and is an all around better place minus the MASSIVE inconvenience factor.
