Code 88, Purge Valve

'94 NAS 3.9L V8. I got the CEL yesterday, and code reader showed me code 88, purge valve. Does anyone have the testing sequence for this? I saw a lot of vague references to the testing, but nothing definitive. Or is this one I can just disconnect the battery and hope it doesn't come back? Thanks all!

Maybe we start with how the heck I get the wire clip off the top of the canister.

I’ve seen a bunch of open questions on the other other site so I’m guessing this is not a common issue but hoping the knowledge has grown since the last time this was asked! Thanks!
