Yes sir, plug and play.
No need to "lock anything out", it comes ready to go.

Interesting that Rover V8 owners are converting to HEI because it is so reliable.
HEI is an OEM factory component of all but the very early inline Chevy 6 engines.
GM hit a home run with an engine that requires very little maintenance, it even has metal timing gears instead of a belt or chain.
For those of you building or having an engine built, use the Comp Cams 61-232-4 for plenty of power and smooth performance in the 2400 to 2500 RPM range.
I have told everyone to stay away from high end racing cams with a rough idle that will operate in an RPM range that will never be reached in a Defender.
When I started building Land Rover conversions in the 1990s, designed a cam for the GM 3.0 liter 4 cylinders that Comp Cams would grind for me that worked well, but required a few dyno run comparisons to dial it in to reach a final design.
It's nice to skip all that with the optimal cam available off-the-shelf for short money.
This one will perform better than the original, but keep close to stock.
It was often called the RV cam in the past.

I was assuming/didn't know there was a 250 actual sniper hei distributor. I think you can get the same spark Control using a standard 4pin hei module and oem hei distributor locked out if you are striving for a budget fyi

I also converted my slant six and two vws over to hei from points instead of the Chrysler/petronix electronic ignition. The gm stuff is simpler wiring wise and just more reliable. The 4 pin module takes battery voltage input instead of needing a ballast resistor.

I posted a cam in the Craigslist finds for the 292 btw , it had a massive .6xx lift

The seller posted that cam FS in the 292 FB Group, so had seen it at about the same time you posted it up.
Think it was the one FS in Santa Clara.

I think getting 175 HP and 250 ftlbs of torque is a realistic goal with a slightly higher lift cam and the Holley Sniper EFI.
This is because everyone seems to be fixated with the numbers, but the driveability is there with a stock 250.

Can you do a turbo 292?

The stock 292 has 280 FtLbs of torque at 1,600 RPM.
We have one in a 110 station wagon and when driving, I typically shift through all 5 gears without touching the accelerator petal.
Then when petal is applied you increase speed and pull away similar to if there was an automatic transmission.
So with a stock 292 able to provide a lot more power than needed, why would anyone want to install a 292 with a turbo?
Who needs 510 FtLbs of torque, when 280 is more than enough?

Thank you Red90, my man Johnny!

Just for shits and giggles. I acknowledge, the 250 or 292 sounds great & you inherit a huge parts network along with it.

This is also a good mild choice for those who were asking as a follow-up to post #41:

I'll send you the contact info.
I’ll be coming through Atlanta with a new to me defender I’m driving home to Nashville from the port in Jacksonville. Would love to possibly meet up and see this in person as it’s the swap I have planned for my 200tdi d90 I’m getting. Also any tips or things to bring with me for the drive/inspection when picking it up would be great. Thanks

I'll PM you some of the people in Atlanta with installs.
Think there are 1 fully complete that I did, 1 DIY complete - but not quite on the road yet due to non engine related things like tail lights, there are 2 about to start, and 1 in the works.
