If other drivers had read their own signs, quite literally, neither of those would have been totaled. I was not at fault in either, but I did give up bikes because I wanted to eventually have kids and be able to play with them with both my arms. I have 4 titanium plates in my forearms and a titanium elbow. Another accident would probably have ripped the plates and screws out of a bone, resulting in an amputation. I daily rode the S4R for almost 3 years, rain or shine. That is still the most fun vehicle I've ever driven or ridden, owner or otherwise. All my accidents were at rush hour. I'm not capable of being a weekend only rider or I would have kept riding.

"Motorcycles are not, of themselves, inherently dangerous. There are extremely unforgiving of inattention and stupidity on the part of yourself of those around you." - An old coworker who is a daily rider also.

One day I had an appointment to reflash my bikes ecu @ a shop outside Annapolis Md named Eastern Performance. When I pulled up I was wearing jean shorts and a t shirt on a 90 plus degree day.
This crusty old biker in bib overalls and a long braided beard gave me a tongue lashing.
His line was, Its not if you go down, its when, dress for the occasion. The very next day a small asian lady driving a mini van changed lanes into me as I was passing her in the left lane on interstate 70. Put me into the center median grass @ 70 mph. By some miracle I kept it upright and got back on the pavement, her error freaked her out, she was pulled over on the shoulder a half mile up, I didnt stop. The gristley guys condemnation burned on my brain. On another occasion on the Baltimore beltway I695 I was again in the left lane to take an upcoming left exit and I saw a chunk of 6x6 used to chock some truckers load airborne over the jersey wall and coming right @ my head. I ducked as low as I could and it grazed my left shoulder as it went by. Guessing the combined speed of the impact was @ least 120mph on a busy interstate. I quit riding 15 yrs ago because of those two incidents, pretty much the same reasons you had.

Dress for the slide not for the ride

I can see motorcycles being the ultimate thril and can see the reason why people ride but everyone that has ridden has these stories.

I scare myself plenty on a mtn bike (don't ride road as it's just a couple of ticks below riding a motorcycle). I don't get the 100% experience as I bet I would riding a motorcycle but it's probably close to 80% and I'm guessing it's about 80% safer. Plus mtn biking is good cross training for driving my LR off road ;D

In high school I drove whatever the old man had extra of and that worked.

It was mostly K20 plow trucks which were good vehicles to learn how to drive on. Then a ratty 1965 Chevy Impala 4 door (283/powerglide).

One day I was skating my half with some friends. I tried something new; landed flat bottom and dislocated my shoulder. My dad being an EMT popped it back in and said "we got to go pick up this car". He had found a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo (350/auto) in the local IHOP parking lot with a busted ball joint. Beat to hell but he wanted to pull the engine for another project. We got it back home and a month or so later I asked if I could clean it up and drive it. Being a dog leg rear end it was easy to spin tires so I had a lot of fun with it. I drove it that summer before college then sold it to buy a mtn bike for school.

College:
1984 VW Jetta (Mk1 automatic :( )
1980 Saab 900 Turbo 5-door
1976 Jeep Cherokee 4 door (360/4 speed)
1974 Mercedes Benz 240D (originally a small diesel but swapped to a MB 250 inline 6 - 4 speed gearbox)
I drove a 1978 Dodge Ramcharger for a few months when the Saab was broke.

Post college:
1984 Jeep Cherokee XJ 4 door (v6/5 speed)
1978 Volvo 242 (auto :( )
1982 Volvo 244 (5 speed)

Since I've been in NJ:
1992 Saab 900S 3 door - Group 9 exhaust; SPG springs; wider wheels off a 9000.
1999 Audi B5 A4 (1.8T/5 speed) - my first new car. I had it APR chip; Koni coilovers; Borla exhaust; 17" wheels. It was a lot of fun.
2002 Audi C5 allroad (2.7T/5 speed) - chipped, exhuast, 18" wheels.
2004 Audi B6 S4 (4.2/6 speed) - Miltek exhaust and BBS 19" wheels. This was a lot of fun too and that V8 sounded incredible.
2002 Chevrolet Suburban Z71
2007 GMC Yukon XL
2010 Chevrolet Suburban
* 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 Duramax
2002 Ford F250 7.3 PSD

Past Land Rover vehicles. They have been my wife's (and my daughter's) but I drove them all and picked them out.
1999 Land Rover Discovery 2
2008 LR Range Rover L322
2013 LR Range Rover L405
* 2018 LR RRS
* 2012 LR4

1995 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS ST
* 1986 Land Rover 110
* 1985 Land Rover 90 - basketcase

To add to the discussion:

- What vehicle did you have that you wish you had again?
- Which one did you absolutely hate?

I would love to have almost any of my previous vehicles but would change it up a little. Ex: I would love another Saab 900 but make it a SPG version; Or the Volvo 242 with a different powerplant and 5 speed. A W115 bodied MB with a hot rod OM617 and manual would be another one.

I guess the one that rings out that I didn't like was the 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser. I know people love them but that thing blew a transmission one summer when we were hundreds of miles away for home. Toyota said one thing when we needed to get it fixed but acted totally differently when it was time to pay.

My 2015 Duramax has pissed my off a bunch of times with weird breakdowns but then it gets fixed and it does a great job when it's running right.

i also quit riding around 2010 after an on road accident that totaled the DR650 (and also my left forearm). too nervous to ride now that nearly every driver is operating their smart phone as much as they are their vehicle.

I'd kill to have the '67 RS Camaro back...the Pathfinder was a piece of junk.

Hated none. Wife hated the 99 and 97 Discos, the Ram, and the Galaxy.

I’d take my 67 Camaro, 69 Ghias, 72 911 and NAS 90’s back. The 2002’s & GTI’s never wow’d me.

There were 100 94 LE soft tops. Beluga Black with black leather seats. They had a stainless steel front "A bar" over the bumper and stainless steel side steps. I pulled that stuff off and gave it to Ron with the 135 cars in his post. I should start another thread with if you had it to do over what would you still have.
This and the 94 3.6 turbo S would be the two I wish I still had. Both have appreciated stratospherically.
I sold this 94 NAS 90 for $17,500 and it only had 36k miles. Sold It to a fellow who still has it and would guess it has maybe 45k now.
Thanks; I'd never heard of these. Even the ECR site has no mention of them.

"If I had to do it all over again", I would have bought that 1993 NAS 110 for $25K back in the day.

If I had it to do over, I would have bought the 1949 Healey Silverstone that Dave Barrows owned in VA Beach.
I worked on it a few times for Dave who lived on 86st at the VA Beach ocean front.
Stan Healey ended up buying it and it was shipped back to England and put up in a museum.

I would have liked to have had my first D90 the Portofino back - had the opportunity but the timing was off - now it isn't what it was anymore. The black 1995 D90, and maybe my 110. And maybe my first 1997 Cruiser or the FJ62.
