Bring a Trailer Defender Auction Criticism

Im guessing that this is not new, but really noticed it on this one....can you simply say "said to have been replaced/installed/swapped" and that is valid enough for BAT? Hell, you could say anything you want I guess....

Most of the stuff on this truck reads like this....
"The 2.5-liter 300Tdi inline-four is said to have been fitted with a replacement cylinder head and starter in 2020"

I've dealt with BAT and they fall back on qualifying some things that way due to their lack of first hand knowledge and in some cases, expertise and experience. Sometimes it's appropriate and sometimes not. In my listing they stated, "The pickup bed is said to be refinished with bedliner material," while the professional photos clearly show that it had been. In the same listing they take my word for any number of things that aren't photographed. Wtf? They don't really know any of the vehicles, and their staff has a lot of ground to cover. There's very little they can verify themselves. Still comes down to the same thing, you can take the seller's word to the extent that it comports with known facts and photos. Anything more is a risk, and dependent on the seller's cred.

I logged in and asked for more cage info, but my question is being "moderated".

$50k on engine install, $50 on cage.

surprise no one has mentioned the puma bulkhead / dash the weird chassis number or the grinded off vin in pic 37 eeep.

good luck to the winner

I am in absolutely no way defending this build and I think what they are doing awful for us all.

But.. I think what we are seeing here is the result of an angle grinder with likely a flapper disc or wire brisles to remove any overcoat of wax or paint to expose the VIN number. something I had to do myself when importing my brothers 90.

What I do not understand is why does this one have these potential issues?

I have seen 2 ECD trucks and they look pretty good. Granted I have not spent much or any time with them to look at them closely enough but the roll cages certainly didn't look like this one.

The paint and roll cage was probably done prior to importing to the US. If you look at the bill of work from ECD(last pic on the auction) it doesn’t list the cage. It sort of seems like it’s being sold as an ECD build, but I think that’s just the drivetrain and interior dash area.

Look at all those kewl LED lights.
And the paint overspray on the tires.
True marks of a quality job.
Not defending it, but it's probably soap/tire lube used for mounting the tires to the rims. It still says a lot that they didn't try to clean it off if that's the case, though.

I still hard to believe people buy these things. There's so many dodgy things with this truck. Just as scary as the truck, are the scam artists that sell them like they are all that they are perfect trucks.

I've said it before... there''s a sucker born every minute.

Coming soon. Can't wait to see more pictures.
I’ve been resisting the urge to dog him out of FaceBook when he posts in whatever defender group we‘re both in. As much as I want to increase awareness about him and his shit trucks, I can’t see the value in a FB passing contest.
