Bring a Trailer Defender Auction Criticism

177k lol no Axle breather and the exhaust from the n/a 2.5 diesel
Lot's of cool and overall nicely done parts and a clean overall look on that. But small stuff like the axle breather, missing screws on the headlight surrounds falls a bit short. Saying "Borla Exhuast" is pretty bad when it's a Borla muffler welded between what looks like some random pipes. And I don't see a band clamp within the whole system so good luck when you need to remove it! Pity as that front RW Y-pipe looks so good.

Another turd with sprinkles from AlpineElement on BaT:

Non-functional wing intake, cosmetic cage, his trademark cartoonishly tall cubby box, and more! Missing drive flange cap on the front right wheel, flinging grease all over the freshly painted wheels (and lug nuts). The steering drop arm and steering rod look strange too - fitted backwards?

I saw that and was too depressed to post it. I thought maybe he’d run out of Turkish Rovers or been hemmed up by the authorities. Wishful thinking.

Look how beat up the chassis, crossmembers, and exhaust are, this thing has been thrashed. So many other typical Alpine Element problems too, like rear seatbelt locations wallpapered over with fake suede. This guy is the worst.

Some times a good one ends up on there. I'd get this one and do absolutely nothing to it. It's perfect. Loved my '96 5-spd.

I often wonder how much more effort it is to make those horrible cages than to simply buy a proper one. I guess dropping down and tek screwing into the tub and wings is much less work, but it's still a lot of crappy welding to do.

I enjoyed the original owner's letters to his garage regarding work to be accomplished on this ad. To say he was passionate about how work was undertaken on his vehicle, is an understatement.

how do elements turkish 'defenders' go for 65k. like power to him but it doesnt seem right when there are so many corners cut. Surely once people buy them they would get annoyed with all the crap like no seatbelts, painted lugs and altered vins. maybe not?

I’m not ruling out shill bidding and other nefarious actions. Better trucks sell for less, even on BaT. There is something about the comments section too, other marques seem to have highly critical comment sections and it’s normal and tolerated. Criticism in Alpine’s auctions especially gets shouted down. I’ve pretty much ascribed it to a young dumbass seller and a crew of enabling dumbasses with collective bad ethics.

Alpine's faux NAS 110 lowers the bar. He introduced cosmetic snorkels to the Defender market, now it's cosmetic cages. The air cleaner is about the same size as a lawn mower's. Also cosmetic.
Shiny sells on BAT.

Im guessing that this is not new, but really noticed it on this one....can you simply say "said to have been replaced/installed/swapped" and that is valid enough for BAT? Hell, you could say anything you want I guess....

Most of the stuff on this truck reads like this....
"The 2.5-liter 300Tdi inline-four is said to have been fitted with a replacement cylinder head and starter in 2020"

I can’t speak for the specific truck but i spent some time talking to the seller (look at his history on BAT) and thought he was legit. He sent me pictures of that truck before he ’restored’ it. for a number of reasons i went a diff direction.

But 100% agree, some form of base line credibility is missing on BAT. Buyer beware as always i guess.

That's one of the ugliest trucks I've seen on there. Bad color, horrible accessories and mods. Lot's of poor decisions made.
