Brake Failure

No one lists the actual length of the Goodridge lines - only +2" (or 4") over stock length, so I ordered the Goodridge BA161 stock length from Bearmach (along with some other brake line parts). My existing hoses are only 18" (see pic). I'll update with hose length after I get them.

I planned on upgrading my hoses anyway. Now for the really embarrassing part - It wasn't the hose that lost all my brake fluid. It was a self inflicted problem - apparently I didn't torque the bolts properly when I replaced the brake calipers & pads. Over time, I lost a bolt (see pic #3 top bolt). The loose movement of the caliper broke the brake line between the caliper & hose bracket. Admitting this might help reinforce proper torquing. I know some bolts are a one time use - should these bolts have been replaced with new when I replaced my calipers?

I found mine!

There are three in the box, marked 2+ for D90. Maybe this is what made me confused, or maybe I grabbed the short one, not noticing the difference as I pulled it out of the top of the box, and measured that against the front end lines. One way or another, two of them are 19" and one of them is 15.5". This is measured tip to tip.

If I'm correct while lying under the truck here at night in the rain, these will fit, but they certainly are not 2" longer than what is on my truck right now.

I'd like to know what length the extended D110 lines are supposed to be.

Is that the long line, or the short rear?

The 0.3" difference compared to the ones I got, though! I want my money back! ;)

Goodridge stock length is 17.5". Same as the stock hose I removed. I posted earlier that stock length was 18" (I thought holding the curve kept it a little short on the tape measure) - Replacing all three hoses. Now I'm waiting on new caliper bolts for both sides & I'll have all the parts to put it back together.

New caliper bolts & spring washers (torqued to 140 Nm - torque specs are 120-150 Nm). New pipe between the brake hose & caliper. The new stainless hose wants to run straight to the supply line (without the curl of the original). Do I put a curl in it or let it run natural? Add the plastic spiral protector or leave it bare? Feels like adding the curl puts more stress on the hose...

I bug Zack for the Goodrdige and have custom lengths made for the funky stuff.

These are stock length & the same length as the rubber ones I removed. I'm leaning toward running them straight with the spiral protectors added, then putting my wheel back on to see if it rubs when I turn. I just know that this upgrade has been done a lot, so for those of you who have - curl or no?

crap photo but this is off a D90 with custom length lines. Nice section of hose over the stainless lines for protection.

Thank you - that's what I wanted to see. It looks like the curl isn't necessary as long as it doesn't rub or get pinched. I didn't like the idea of forcing a curl in the hose.

Clever how these trucks continue to require parts replacement. Front hoses & caliper lines installed. All I had left was the easy rear hose, except the corroded brake line broke instead of letting the nut loose! Checking the rest of the original tubing, I'm now thinking it's time to replace ALL the brake lines. I am glad this one happened in my garage & not while out driving (again).

I used a cuperonickel kit from eBay , pre sized and super easy to shape . Took about 3 hours to do. Some states copper break lines aren't legal fyi

from my experience in NJ inspections (lol) if it looked like copper MAY have a problem with it IF the inspector didn't have his fav bagel for breakfast that morning.

Driving down a windy steep gravel road & noticed the pedal slowly going to the floor when I depressed it. Down shifted & pumped it a couple times before the washboard corners & I had NO brakes 😨! A mile from home & no traffic, I slowed with my handbrake & down shifted to second, used my handbrake at the one stop sign & made it home into the garage. Obvious front left brake hose leak. It was already on my list to replace the old brake hoses with SS braided - Any recommendations on brand and where to order them from?

I just had the same thing happen on an offramp getting on the highway... was able to limp home with light pedal pressure, gearing and the parking brake. Scary sh*t.
