Bonnet Frame and Skin

Likely a simple question: What tips are there for separating the bonnet frame from the skin? Seems easy to do correctly, and also easy to jack it up.
  • Drill out all the rivets (note sizes when removing)
  • Remove the steel frame from the aluminum skin
  • Tricky part is bending the skin at the hinge end and side corners
  • Repair as needed and galvanize
  • Drill out the holes before reinstall
  • Reinstall skin
Are there are just pop rivets, or are there hammer rivets, in which case may need an air hammer & tool for those rivet heads, but not sure?

Are the frames also glued to the skin?

Thanks...

Hows your German?

Otherwise yes.. drill out all the pop rivets and crack the bonding glue, then hammer that thing out. For a hammer rivet you could file the top flat, punch a guide hole and drill it out the same, but I don't recall any hammer rivets in the bonnet assembly.

If you have have a bonnet mounted tire then, that kit or hardware also needs to be removed.

Do you know what kind of bonding glue it is? My hood glue has completely separated from the frame and need to replace it to keep it from vibrating. Thanks in advance!

3M body panel adhesive will work fine as long as you clean all the grease and grime off of the two mating surfaces. You can also use Hysol 9460. It is used for glueing aircraft wing ribs into place on the wing spar. Once dry it isn't going anywhere and it won't vibrate apart.
