Battery recommendations.

Expensive, but technically an option. It's two 100ah lithium batteries with built in heaters for cold weather. Wired in parallel they should put out enough current to run a starter and winch far longer than any lead acid setup and with less weight. Of course, you could also run a battery heating pad on an SLA or AGM.

No issues at all. I changed the orientation of the hold down to clamp from the top instead of at an angle.
I'm debating removing the two batteries the PO installed in the box and just getting a better single AGM. I can always get a jackery style inverter and wire it for camping. 2x 45-55 lbs. per battery plus my fat arse on that side alone is not something I want. This will give me room to get a new PD setup and disconnect. Thanks for the tip on the battery

fwiw; In searching for a basic flooded battery I found this commercial Interstate group 31 battery with 1000 CCA and 185 minutes of reserve for only $129.

Wondering if for any reason the above commercial wouldn't be a good choice compared to the many other more expensive flooded Interstate 31's available. (btw their website has been wonky lately if link decides not to work).

The warranty is quite short and I'd make sure it can be vented with a tube to keep battery vapor out of the cab. Specs vs price ratio is attractive though.

I found the surprisingly low priced led-acid batteries to not perform as well. I'm thinking they failed the factory quality control and were kicked out at a lower price.

Advanced auto has some decently
Priced Agm units.

I'm replacing the battery in my daily driver pickup truck this week, and both Costco and Sam's Club now carry AGMs at good prices.

Costco carries "Interstate" batteries; an AGM in size H7 is $185. Can't seem to find 31/31M on their website. Warranty is 36 months.

Sam's Club has a "Duracell" branded (whatever) AGM for $214 in size 31. Warranty is much less impressive at 18 months:

Fwiw I just put an H8 AGM battery in a Defender that has a YRM seatbox and battery tray. I was worried that a group 31 wouldn’t fit height wise.

Mine is a 34/78 group with dual posts. Fits well with plenty of room and I will eventually mount it on its side

Are the YRM more shallow? i have one group 31 on its side and the other upright (90/110) In stock seatboxes with holdown trays. They definitely fir, but centered or forward. Upright with side terminals would be ideal. Mine are bolt terminals (top) pc2150 odyssey for size reference.

My 90 has a duracell AGM that's supposedly a rebranded Deka... it's old battery is in our subaru, a group 34 diehard agm and it about spun the starter off the bellhousing.

I'm a huge fan of CTEK chargers.

In Arizona heat is the biggest killer of batteries. They last 2-3 years no matter what brand, size or type you buy. I buy whatever brand is most convenient and pay the pro-rated payment to re-lease a new battery from Costco, Auto Zone or NAPA. The worst warranty is by far Optima. They won't just swap them out, they charge them for 24 hours then load test them. If it is out of your daily driver you are out of commission for 2 days or more.

Yeah, I think they aren’t quite as deep as a factory box. The space inside is much more useable than a factory one, and they are probably overall bigger.

Cool! There is a bunch of wasted space originally. How do they do battery hold down? And yeah. There is no extra space in my seat box. 1/4”? I even relaxed/domed lid above rear terminal just in case “something” happens. Little more room. So it needs the depth.

They make two different battery hold downs. One for a single battery (H8 was an exact fit), and also a dual battery hood down.

Costco is my go to. I bought one 10+ years ago and return them before the warranty expires.
