yes, it fits and no clearance issue... not in my '97 90

I'm curious... why the recommendation for deep cycle batteries? What electrical load do you have when the engine (alternator) is not operating that requires a deep cycle?

The only load I can think of on mine that is a royal pain is an after market alarm system that a PO installed on top of the factory demobilizer, but honestly, I'd rather remove the alarm than put a light load on a deep cycle. I'm still on the lookout for the alarm "brain" though...
