Just found this and was looking for thoughts on the choices.
I have a 200tdi with vnt turbo, unrated intercooler and ported head (not sure any of that matters)
It's a 110

It comes in:

straight pipe

just center silencer

just rear silencer

or both center and rear

I run a straight through 3in exhaust. It's loud for most folks.

I think this is overpriced , especially since you have to use gaskets.

I'd buy vbands and have a shop make it for the same price or slightly more. Mild or ss

I actually know a guy in Edison who made my original exhaust. I think I can still get his contact information.

Less silencers equals more noise and less restriction. Depends what your desires are there. RN offers a nice product too.

I saw that, I liked the idea of being able to have just one or no silencers/mufflers,
but as mentioned, not the price

I have they’re 300 exhaust, it is a superior product to basically every other stainless exhaust I’ve seen.

I was thinking about buying 2, one straight and one with both silencers and mixing and matching

i want to gently push back on the idea of ”just get a custom exhaust/cage/bracket/trebuchet welded up.” A custom whatever has always cost me more than buying some production part, and it has only gotten worse. Except for that one time when the really talented dude under-quoted that roof rack. Point being, you e got to have a great network to get custom anything done at all and you have to be on great terms with those guys to get a price that is less than expensive.

does anyone have any videos of their trucks with aftermarket exhausts? Especially Tdi trucks with no silencers? How loud are they?

Well it's really hard to get an idea of how loud something is through recording I can offer to take one of mine. It's considerably louder than most trucks. 3-in stainless steel no muffler minimal bends, exits about 6 ft 8 in in the air

I have a 200 tdi (disco) with a straight exhaust, not loud at all. The muffler shop that did the work was surprised.

For these old rust buckets, full stainless exhaust seems like overkill. As far as custom vs kit, I had a local shop rework the exhaust on my P38 Range Rover to eliminate double mufflers in the rear to a single recessed one. Kept banging them offroading. Paid 1/4 the cost of a stainless system and we bent the tube to exactly what I wanted. Only took a few hours and couple hundred bucks. The kit was like $1k!

Did custom on my 300tdi conversion as well but I also didn't trust the locations of the hangers as I have a Santana frame.

Personally, I think the engine itself is so loud
With a Tdi it doesn’t matter what exhaust you have.
This is true for mine. Straight pipe exhaust made zero difference in loudness overall. Sounds like a badass little tractor when standing near the exhaust, but no difference while driving.

That does look really nice. When you put the down pipe on make sure that you thoroughly clean the cast iron elbow with a wire wheel or emery paper wrapped around it. Needs to be relatively smooth for the new downpipe to seal. If you have the older style exhaust clamp on the cast iron elbow put the diagonal cut in the clamp directly over the slot in the end of the pipe. Use lots of anti-seize on that bolt and crank that fucker down. If it's a coarse thread bolt replace it with a fine pitch.
