Adjusting Dead Seat

I need to adjust the seat in the RRC manually. I think all the motors work, but the switch has gone out. I tried cleaning it. And that did seem to work for a few months, but the problem now is that it is suddenly just stuck in reverse. Every time you open the door, or have the ignition on, it back up all the way, and stays there stalling out the motor. So I’m going to pull the power, but need to be able to adjust the seat once I do that.

I seem to remember you can use a drill?

Just found that this morning. Jumping the wires seems to be something that will work, except that even with the switch unplugged, and the motor wires disconnected, the seat is still trying to move back in reverse. So the good news is that my switch might still be OK, and the motor/seat itself all seems to work. Of course, it is disabled now, but there is a constant clicking of what I assume is a relay the moment the door is opened, or whenever the ignition is turned on.

I guess a relay needs to be replaced.

So using the plug beneath the seat to jump the motors with a 12v battery worked very well. And I was able to confirm that all of the motors/directions do work well. Much better than using the factory switch might imply. The relay clicking sound, however, is coming out of a silver box (about 1x4x5 inches in size) that is tucked under the seat, and sealed. It looks like it must be an electronic control unit for the seat adjustment. So I just set the seat where I want it, then pulled the fuse........ hate leaving it like that, but I'm not going to spend $$$$ on some Lucas control unit just so I can change the seating when someone else happens to drive the vehicle.

Sounds like the battery in your seat memory ecu has died. My 94 did the same thing. I moved it like you have done and just left it. Hopefully Grumpy Bill will rebuild my ecu @ some point.
