Adding gauges- power for the back light

I am going to add boost and a tach to the 110.

Currently the truck has a Td5 dash and harness. How do I tie into the power for the back lights on the VDO gauges? Anyone have some photos of how to do this? I want it to be clean, easy to undo, and I need to run the wires from behind the dash to a center pod.

Thanks,
Alex

Cut, strip and recrimp the red speedo wire with a 2nd wire going to the new gauges. Super low draw so it isn't a huge deal grabbing power like this and super easy to undo what you have done. Then ground the new gauges to the bulkhead.

Happen to know the gauge of the wire? I'm assuming I can then piggy back the new gauges in the pod off of each other.

Would it work to use the power from the 12v outlet that is already in the dash? Truck has the Td5 dash and I am going to delete the 12v outlet in the dash and wire in separate 12v/USB outlets elsewhere.

I'm new to all the electrical and gauge stuff. I just chase down coolant leaks and no heat on a regular basis.

That would work to power the gauges but that would also illuminate them whenever the key is in the "On" position. Your truck so that would be your call.

I would just piggie back from a one of the lights on another gauge or from one of the lights in the climate control. That way your gauges are backlit with the lights from the stalk instead of with the ignition.

Makes sense.

One more question. If I wanted to get a plug that matches the clock one, the purple, red, and black one in the picture, where would I source that?
