Adapting a Mantec swing-away tire carrier to a truck with a tailgate

Has anyone adapted a Mantec tire carrier to a truck with a tailgate? It's hard to see from the photos how the carrier attaches to the rear door but I was thinking about fabricating an extension arm off the left side of the carrier (as viewed from behind the truck) that interfaces with a bracket that's mounted at the top of the tub nearest the tailgate. This arm/bracket would serve to secure and support the carrier when it's closed.

Thoughts?

I installed one on my 110 double cab but made the tailgate swing away instead of drop down.. required a spacer plate but works fine..pics if needed..

There are carriers that work with drop downs, fasten with the left side anti luce and then swing to the side so you can drop the tailgate.

I would think you'd be better off having one made locally and utilise the tailgate latch to hold it shut.

I had that on my ExMOD 90. It is made by Britparts and it was just ok. You had to put a carabiner on the anti-lice so it wouldn't pop open on speed bumps and fly open in a turn. I wouldn't recommend it.

Could one of you guys with a Matec post a photo like the one Dave just posted? Want to see what the back of it looks like. Thanks.

Mantec is the same as the photo without the extended arm (top tube stops where it meets the lower tube)

I have a new source for single and double swing away carriers that are not back door dependent (Thanks SEMA)

If the Mantec locks with some type of pin or cam I would go with that instead. The Britparts one pictured it a great idea but it doesn't lock in place like you would want it to.
