That's a stanadyne fm100 fuel manager with 3/8npt bungs. Mine is outfitted with the optional hand priming pump on top to make filter changes quick and easy... No need to touch the lift pump

That took me down quite the rabbit hole of diesel fuel systems. So why do you run a prefilter unit and the fuel/water filter, just peace of mind? I see the FM100 has an optional 150micron prefilter that seems to do the same thing.

I dont have the fm100 pre-filter, I'd have to run two fm100 heads to do so. My filter on the fm100 is a 2 micron so I figured that a separate prefilter would be prudent, and the racor is very cheap and very high-quality

The prefilter is totally optional but I think it's a great idea if you plan to run a very small micron main filter like the 2 I'm running.

The clear fuel bowl is a nice touch and is a great indicator on when you need to swap out the filter (if you didn't mark it and forget) it's easy to see with a flashlight any garbage that made it to the filter head and makes water and Alge easy to see

Two other options are the hand priming pump on top (I've got this) makes filter changes and printing the system really easy as it works much better than the lift pump priming handle. They also make a fuel heater, you can wire this to the glow plug circuit and it will warm the fuel before starting the truck or you can run it constantly in artic conditions (fuel lines would also have to be heated but that's another thing)

Also any prefilter/sedimenter should be as close to the tank as possible to keep crap from building up in the lines

nice writeup, I may add a similar 300TDI project I am doing next week!

Thanks for putting this together

gathering parts for the job on a 200tdi in a 90. need some clarification.

what fittings needed for:
  1. sender/pickup on tank. (I assume pickup and return)
  2. connection to IP banjo (hard to AN?)
  3. stock pump in/out, not quite understanding post as some links are no longer valid.

what location is used for a 12v pump and sedimentor on a 90? pics/links welcome. thanks gents.

In image 032 you can just barely see the copper crush washer under the adapter in the top of the pump.

Sender pickup , return and connection to ip both rear and input are all 5/16(8mm) hard tube to an

great, so 4, AN6 female to 5/16 female pipe adapters will do it? all of those connections are steel? I saw lots of plastic so wasn't sure.

Stock pump in/out are 1/2 straight thread to an. You need to use a crush washer as the adapter is made for inverted flare and won't fit the pump and seal.

thanks, I'll try to follow your lead and find a fitting with a large surface. have you had any leaks with that setup?

edit: you linked to it, thanks

Yes those connections are all steel you may need to very slightly tweak the adapters if the tubes are jacked up.

The adapter jegs 110540 that I linked above is the exact one that I used. Leak free
