2.5NA/200tdi chassis gas tank options ? (For a 90)

I did a quick I search and most conversation around gas tanks seems to involve the 110 so here we go.

I have an early 90, originally a 2.5NA on a new galvanized chassis. Post R2.8 engine swap I need more range. On a recent cross country trip I was stopping for Diesel every 60-100 miles! (Not every gas station has diesel)

so...
In my owners manual, there were 3 different side tanks for that era of truck, 45.5 , 54.58 and 68.2 litres respectively. Are they all interchangeable? (as in, will bolt up without cutting or any other fab work?)
I see that RN sells the bigger 68.2 litre tank. It'd be nice to just go use that.

Only 60-100 miles to a tank? That seems low. Is your tank dented? Ive run into that a couple of times

It's a new (ish) tank that the previous owner installed in 2015, doesn't appear dented. He bought the tank based off of the VIN so he may have bought the 45.5 litre tank. I've owned the truck for 5 years but this is the first time I've driven anywhere significant in it and previously it wasn't Interstate speed capable so I've never tracked efficiency.

earlier in the trip I was getting around 20mpg but with a constant 20-40mph headwind that got cut in half crossing South Dakota and Wyoming. 60-100 miles was from full down to around a 1/4 tank and putting in about 8 gallons of diesel.
