So based on the knowledge you all have, what would you say it's really worth? I have a local guy we've had fixing our rovers for years (the ex has a 94 D90 and I had a 94 Classic LWB). He builds trucks and said he could do a lot to it, granted parts wouldn't always be Land Rover parts.

Chris, thanks for jumping in. I apologize for my part of taking this sideways. In reference to the KBryan’s question, A well cared for Santana of that era, the 1980s, (from my experience) is a nice utility vehicle you can do a lot with and will enjoy it. As far as what it is really worth, that is a tough one. I can say the value is, in my experience, less than similar condition and era British assembled Land Rovers. I will pm you some further thoughts on value.

If anyone is near Mayhill, NM this summer i’d welcome a visit and you can see a genuine Santana. It is a beautiful area with cool summer temperatures. I already owe Roverman2010 a beer and a pizza at the local brewery and while they don’t have popcorn, you’ll really like the pizza.

And finally, Chris, I do think a section dedicated to Santanas would be fantastic. However, no expectations here at all. I appreciate the site as is.

No matter what y'all decide, this thread is reminding me that I have always wondered about the "real" differences between the two in the late '80s and early '90s versions. Has anyone done a comparison online that would be fun to look at?

When I was in the UK a few years ago, I was disappointed, but also excited to see some Bf109s fly at an airshow. Excited, because I've seen them before, but I've never seen one run or fly. Disappointed because they were the Spanish version.... they are 109s.... but they aren't at the same time. And they have goofy looking cowls, so they never photograph as well, just exactly like the Defender vs. Santana.

I think that is why many Santanas end up with D90 headlight panels and trim swapped in. I plan to do that, just because I think it looks better and is easy. The one for sale here appears to have that mod as well.

As a point of reference, since you ask. A 95 NAS 90 (left hand drive) Softop (Badger top) AA Yellow posted here sold for 29k today.
Truck is in good enough condition that plan is to drive it from Boston to Virginia picking up a few RURR items along the way.
From my perspective, a NAS 90 is the top of the value range for these vehicles based on sale prices.

Post was made in response to op's request for a value, rather than offer my opinion.
That was the listed asking price. Seller is a forum member who's owned dozens of defenders.
Customer purchase. Coming to the shop for a little love before being pushed into service for the summer in Wisconsin.
