1.22 TCase w/ 200TDI

I am going to be replacing my transmission soon. Truck has a 1.4 installed, I have a 1.22 TCase from a Disco 1 I could use. Truck is used mostly on the street and beach. Anyone install a 1.22 with their 200tdi or 300tdi?

Is the lower RPM on the highway worth the trade off of reduced low end grunt?

It will be an improvement till you have to climb any extended incline. If I lived somewhere flat I would go the 1.2 route.

I was running a 1.2 with a 200tdi in my exmod 110. It worked nicely with the military gearbox that I had, which had a lower first and a shorter 5th than the 200tdi box.

I think with a 90 you would be ok. You will downshift more for hills.

Don't think it would tow as well, if that's a consideration.

If you climb any incline it will suck. Loved mine up here on the highway, but it wouldn't pull itself up inclines, i.e. my drive. So out came the 1.2 and in went a 1.4, it was so much better. I live at 7000' and work at 4500' so I think that had something to do with it. I would stick to the 1.4 even at the lower elevations IMHO. Good luck with your decision.

I wouldn't recommend a 1.2 either. I put one in my 110 with 200 tdi and everything that has been said is true. I eventually got the engine tuned to where it was acceptable but as has been said hills or heavily loaded were still an issue. One thing you don't hear much about is the affect on first gear. It noticeably affects pulling away from a stop, especially on an incline. I can do 80 without issue in my RRC 300 tdi with the 1.4.

Thanks guys. Ill keep the 1.4 where it is. I don't go on terribly long highway trips. Using Ashcrofts calculator I am at approx 2750 at 65mph.
