    Cargo Overload

For that, I would need a very tall forklift!

    Cargo Overload

From memory, the best boxes for books are about 12"x12"x16" (available at Home Depot). If you go much larger than this, the box becomes to heavy to lift and/or the books inside are not well supported. But it takes forever to pack a large libary into boxes like that. For my next move, I've...

    Cargo Overload

Just ran across this old picture of my LR3 loaded up with my personal library (now much expanded), shortly before the air suspension compressor gave out--resulting in my completing the rest of my cross-town move with the suspension resting on the bump-stops until I was able to get a replacement...

    1997 NAS 90 vs. 1993 NAS 110

From physics/geometry alone, a SWB vehicle will have a greater degree of tilt than an LWB vehicle when going over an depression in the road, so I'm not sure of the exact argument here. But off-camber trail sections are certainly where I feel the least "in control" of my truck.

    Car Fire

Yikes! Quite the afternoon—glad that everyone is safe. Any word on whether that was a regular gas RR or a hybrid? Battery chemical fires are about the only thing scarier than regular petroleum fires

Not for the faint of heart - ‘95 NAS

Brave project! How doe the chassis look? Many things are "cosmetic" at the end of the day, but brakes, steering, and frame need to be in workable shape.

    Nice!

    1997 NAS 90 vs. 1993 NAS 110

All fair points. To me, the biggest advantage on trail of a vehicle with a shorter wheelbase and corresponding tighter turning circle is not the breakover angle, but simply that if I encounter an unsurmountable obstacle (e.g. locked gate on a fire road) or--more likely--simply chicken-out...

    1997 NAS 90 vs. 1993 NAS 110

For daily driving, the biggest difference to me between any 90 and any 110 is that the 90 has a considerably tighter turning radius--I am always see-sawing my 110 back and forth in the parking lot when I take my truck to work. The 90 is more fun to drive and better on the trail, the 110 is much...

    Land Rovers That Suck

At least those wheels are "functional" towards the original intened purpose of being a highly visible fire truck. I am wiling to give "fire appliances" (I suppose the correct term) a lot more leeway than the bling-mobiles.

Doug selling his AA Yellow D90 NAS.

"I've had the same family concerns come up from time to time and definitely get his reasons." Exactly how I came to own a five-door D110.

Doug selling his AA Yellow D90 NAS.

“the first half of that video was the longest and most repetitive "please don't hate me for doing this” Yeah, that was a bit much. I think it is natural for any high-volume “content producers” to end up spending a lot of time talking about themselves—because that is the easiest way to keep the...

Doug selling his AA Yellow D90 NAS.

Doug is definitely not a real off-roader, or someone who deeply understands the mechanics of how automobiles operate. But I have nothing but admiration for the business he’s built with “Cars and Bids.”

Doug selling his AA Yellow D90 NAS.

At root, Doug Demurro is more of a “quirky car” enthusiast than a Defender enthusiast, (and I don’t mean that as an insult) though the Defender classic is certainly a quirky car for many of the reasons he lays out in the video; his description of what Defender ownership is like is certainly...

Anyone 'converted' Mantec Rocksliders to act as compressed Air Storage?

Neat idea; Another perhaps simpler option is to mount a small tank underneath your truck / inside the chassis rail. Something like: https://www.amazon.com/Vixen-Air-Suspension-Aluminum-VXT4100A/dp/B07J6B1421

Discussion - 12V On Board Air Compressors in 2024

For an inexpensive traditional 12-volt inflator, I will second Rocky's recommendation for VIAR's unit--but I got the "Side-by-side" version because it has an SAE connector built in; I had already put SAE connectors on my truck battery (for trickle-charging), and this keeps me from having to mess...

Discussion - 12V On Board Air Compressors in 2024

I was thinking about this about a year ago, and had a complete 180-degree brainwave: use the cordless inflator with my existing cordless tool battery system! I use Milwaukee tools, and the M18 Inflator does an amazing job--and is substantially easier than most of the other options because (1)...

    Frame mounted tire carrier options?

The ORE mount is very well made and well regarded over the pond. It’s definitely a better design than the Mantec and is half(?) the price of the Nakatenega
