Best options in my opinion:
7.50 r16 (tall skinny. original size. not many options left but BFG makes them)
235/85/16 (nearly the same, the metric equivalent as above but just slightly wider. way more options.)
255/85/16 (taller by about 1/2-1" still skinny.)
actual sizes vary by manufacturer...
I always thought the Isuzu power output was relatively low, similar to the LR tdi engines. Am I wrong about that? Maybe the turbo swap mentioned resolves that. The OM606 is a beast and can be tuned to more power than you could use. The Brits are way ahead of us on that swap so if you have a RHD...
Got it done. It wasn't the worst job I've had to do on a defender but I hope I don't have to do it again, at least not on this truck. Removing the ball joint from the axle was probably the easiest part. The long bolts going through the frame were seized and getting them off was a multi-session...
Planning on replacing the rear a frame ball joint this weekend. The fuel tank is in the way of getting good access. Any tips or warnings before I start? How bad of a job is it? There seems to be almost no info in the manual.
I bought the Glen Lewis replacement so I don't have to press anything out.
In my experience the only ways to remove rust are to physically remove through abrasive blasting or wire wheel/sanding OR to chemically remove using phosphoric acid or evapo-rust. Lastly, electrolysis is effective but difficult on larger parts.
If the corrosion is minimal, I would use an...
It's funny, I was just thinking "this truck is really not worth the money I could sell it for now." Don't get me wrong. I love my 90. I enjoy driving it and working on it but for what it is I don't think the price reflects the actual value. Same goes for the series trucks as they go up in value...
They're a substitute for guide blocks when installing new t-seals. They make the job more difficult. Guide blocks are easy to fabricate and they make the job easier.
I'm considering buying a series truck in Tulsa. Anyone close by have the time to do a quick inspection? Considered flying out to inspect but someone knowledgeable might be just as good. Thanks in advance.
I'm thinking of getting a set of these for my series 1. The price is good, especially for 7.00-16 and I can run them on my original wheels with tubes still.
